Listen to the wise man
well for me he is one of the most intelligent soccer players i've ever followed. at least he is doing something good for the society and using his name for good after finishing his career, not just laying in beach and squandering money as majority.

and what thuram said makes pretty much sense for me. the bod knows very well that there are problems in italy with public violency against the blacks, and they should have just respected our players with african origin, as they probably have expierienced such situations.

    Thuram agrees with ban

    Tuesday 28 April, 2009

Lilian Thuram believes his former side Juventus were wrong to appeal against the decision to make them play behind closed doors against Lecce this Sunday.

The Bianconeri were handed the ban after a section of their fans directed racist chants at Inter's Mario Balotelli during the Derby d'Italia on April 18.

When asked if he was surprised some Juventus fans had acted in such a manner, Thuram replied: “No. Racism exists in society and Balotelli is a novelty to Italians.

“He is Italian and black. When I played in Italy, a lot of trainers and players said to me that the France national team wasn't the true one because of the black players.

“Racism is rooted in our society, independently from countries” Thuram told La Gazzetta dello Sport. “In France we have made progress, but there is still work to do. If there are more blacks in our national team it's because of colonialism.

The former Parma centre-back, who now works for a campaign against discrimination, later explained what he believes Italians need to do.

“It needs to be explained that an Italian can be of colour. That the blacks are not all Africans, but also Frenchmen, Danes and Americans.”

Thuram then responded to statements made by Juventus' fans, who defended their actions as legitimate forms of dissent.

The Drughi, a Juventus Ultras group, say they insulted Balotelli because of his poor conduct on the pitch and point to the fact they didn't give Inter's other black players the same treatment.

    What a stupid prick.

No, but when you play for several years for Juve it's about time to realize that our fans aren't racist and were not racist to Balotelli. We have Momo Sissoko ffs... Even Vieira stated that we didn't make racist chants towards Balotelli.

We never booed Muntari aswell. So Thuram is pretty much a retarded prick IMO.

Yes, because if you say anything that is not pro Juve you are stupid.
This is a sterile debate. One side is saying "racism is bad", the other side is saying "Balotelli is a prick, we don't care about his colour".

Thuram is probably right in saying that there is still rampant racism in Italy, (even) more than in France. But that's not really the topic here.

There doesn't seem to be a problem with calling Zlatan a 'Zingaro', but there is one when Ultras boo a black player. Double standards?

What I don't appreciate is moving the goalposts when all of a sudden it's our fans doing it. All these years we've (I at least) have been condemning Lazio and others for monkey chants and when it's our club we say "no, that's nothing to do with racism". In your words, that's double standards.

I would think that by now it would be an established point that monkey chants are unacceptable, but all of a sudden we're back tracking on this? Why, because the fans said "we didn't mean it to be racist"?

You have completely missed the point. This is not a stadium ban for "being racist". This is a ban for racial abuse. It doesn't make any difference if you abuse just one selected player or if you abuse them all equally. That's not any kind of excuse.

I don't give a shit if those fans are racist. What I care about is that regardless of their attitude they stfu with what is obviously racial abuse even if it means sowing their lips shut. Because in a civilized society, that's what you do.

Are you serious? The word civilized doesn't exist in Football world and stadiums my friend. Even if you want to be civilized in a stadium you can't. That's the case everywhere around the world.

No, that's just being an apologist for people who think it's okay to hurl racial abuse. If you banned every person who was involved in this behavior then within 3 weeks you would have completely eliminated it. It's that simple.

Then English stadiums would be pretty empty I'm afraid.

For a couple of weeks. Then people would adapt, which is what people always do, and come back. And respect the rules, because from now on they are being enforced.

It's exactly like the forum. If someone is breaking the rules you ban him. Then he has to decide what is more important to him, being on the forum or breaking rules. In 99% of cases they come back and behave better.
