I think me and you have a different concept of young/youth players. Imo there are 2 types of youth players. A) someone is who is still raw/unfulfilled potential until the age of 22-23. in other words he is still developing and fighting for a spot to be among the big boys. B) a youth player who has achieved world class status.
You say that Man Utd's team is filled with youth. You say their 3 most important players are young players. I say that even though their team is filled with youth now, their 3 mot important players are world class players. It's not like they are running a bunch of 20 year olds from their youth academy and letting them play in their first team.
Keep in mind the fees that Man Utd paid for Rooney (31 million pounds) and Ronaldo (12 million pounds) Nani (18 million pounds ) Anderson (18 million pounds)
out of all those Anderson and Tevez are the ones who has made immediate impact, and who were already good enough to start anyway imo. None of the other players made quite an impact upoon first arriving at the club. You say their team is filled with youth players and are going to win the double. Well Keep in mind that before that, Man Utd went 4 trophy less years. They went those years because they were relying on Ronaldo (crap in his first 3 years) and Rooney (still was Raw at that time) as first team players. It's only after those terrible and awful years that Ronaldo starts performing. It's funny how you mention that you want a team filled with youth. I ask this because I wonder would you have sticked by Ronaldo for 4 years until he started fulfilling his potential? Because the way I see it, you want players like Nocerino and Palladino out because they have no end product (similar to Ronaldo's crap seasons). you judge them based on their first season with us in Serie A. Well Would you wait another year with them? What about if Giovinco doesn't perform in the next 2 season with us?
Keep in mind that we don't have as much as money as before, Andy. We can't go around like Man Utd splash 20 million euros and a kid in the hope that he will make it big, especially considering how many problems our teams has right now . Yeah sure let's buy a CHEAP youngster and bring back 3 of our own and let them develop. But we can't have a team of kids running around. We need to make a balance.
I'm not trying to argue that we shouldn't have a well balanced side in terms of age. What I'm saying is that there is no reason why we shouldn't take chances on youngsters such Piatti or Ivanovic who have proven talent. We have seen good talent after good talent be snapped up by other clubs for far too long, for prices that we could afford, and nobody seems to be angry at that fact. Considering we can waste 25 million on players who don't even play, surely we can allocate some funds to purchasing some younger talents. It's not like arguing we should have an average age of 20 here or something.
What people don't understand is this: You're right, we don't have as much money as we once did! Therefore, how the hell are we going to afford the likes of Gerrard, Lampard, Carvalho, De Rossi, Aquilani, Keita, Diego, Lucho, and the rest of the players out there who have ESTABLISHED themselves and therefore will require us to spend a lot. We have seen how our transfer campaign worked out last summer, with Secco buying an injured Andrade and a Tiago whom, at least I knew, would never be like a Nedved for us. We seem to be stuck in this funk where we are forced into buying players such as Almiron because yeah, the market is suffering from inflation right now. The fact Stendardo is valued at 7 million is completely baffling, but we are getting stuck with these sort of players.
So what are we supposed to do? Keep purchasing players such as these, or allocating some money to players who are younger but have more talent? Either way, we will be spending money and taking on RISK, which could cost us. But too bad these younger talents would probably cost a little less than the likes of Tiago if we buy them BEFORE they come to a big European league, not wait around like a bunch of scared douchebags. Either way, unless we spend the money, we won't be purchasing world class players anyway.
And yes, I would be willing to wait to build a great side that would challenge for top honors for years, like Arsenal and Manure.
I really don't have a clue why you brought up Nocerino and Palladingo to counter the likes of Ronaldo. The latter, in all his seasons with United prior to this one, showed us that he could be damn good one day while still adding to the side while playing. Nocerino and Palladingo add pretty much nothing to the team at the moment, so please don't use them as examples because they're utterly poor. I mean jeez, that's just a really horrendous comparison because nobody has been crazy about them besides hopeful Juventus fans. Fergie doesn't give a crap about the Dingo anymore.
I just don't understand how it seems like only a few people here are outraged that we keep losing out on talented young players. When Moggi was here it was the likes of Hleb, Rosicky, Kaka and Ronaldo. People could see they had loads of talent, but many still admitted they didn't want such players because they were "unproven." Well look at them now. I'm just tired of this fucking nonsense.
