Spalletti confirms Udinese split

Luciano Spalletti is on the verge of becoming the new Roma boss after admitting that his Udinese stint is over.
The tactician still has one-year left on his Bianconeri contract but he’s today confirmed that he is leaving the outfit.
"My three-year cycle at Udinese is over," he told La Gazzetta dello Sport. "I won’t change my mind.
"Football is made of cycles and this one is over. I don’t think I can guarantee this club qualification in next season’s Champions’ League preliminaries."
Udinese don’t want to lose the tactician after he led the club into next season’s European Cup.
But the former Empoli and Sampdoria boss is looking for a new challenge after his heroics at the Stadio Friuli.
"The club asked me to stay and become Technical Director but I want to remain on the field of play," continued Spalletti.
The Giallorossi are now expected to hire the Coach even if he insists he’s had no talks with the capital outfit.
"I’ve not been contacted officially by anybody," he explained. "I hope to find a suitable solution for myself.
"Roma? At this moment in time I really can’t make any comment about them."
Spalletti is set to be handed a three-year contract and could be confirmed as the new Roma boss in the next few days.

Damn that is shit news for Udinese. Losing Jankulovski, probably Pizarro, and now coach Spalletti is not good news for their aspirations of competing in the Champions League next year. Why did it have to be this year for all this dramatic change in Udine?
Sampdoria should have got the final Champions League spot anyway.

Former Lyon boss Paul Le Guen is a surprise contender to take over at Lazio, after holding talks with President Claudio Lotito.
The Frenchman arrived in Italy yesterday and is understood to have met the Biancocelesti chief at Villa San Sebastiano last night.
Lazio are looking for a new Coach after Giuseppe Papadopulo confirmed that he would be leaving at the end of this month.
Le Guen is available following his decision to quit Lyon the day after leading them to a fourth consecutive championship.
He has stated that he wants to land a foreign job and has subsequently been linked with Olympiakos and Fenerbache.
But a move to Serie A would be far more enticing for Le Guen, who is considered as one of Europe’s most promising tacticians.
However, Le Guen is unlikely to land the post unless he is willing to accept a relatively low salary.
Whispers suggest that he is looking for around £700,000-a-season, but the Olimpico’s financial situation means Lotito is only able to offer half that amount.
A new meeting could take place in the next few days even if former Lecce and Atalanta boss Delio Rossi remains the No 1 candidate to take over.
Meanwhile, Gabriele Martino has resigned as the club’s sporting director after just six months in Rome.

I was looking forward to a mid-table team possibly consolidating it's position by qualifying for CL and having a decent run, now it seems it's gonna be back to square one.

Inter are today being linked with a host of big name players after they promised fans a ‘surprise’ signing.
The Nerazzurri had previously stated that they would act cautiously on the transfer market this summer, but owner Massimo Moratti is now prepared to make a major swoop.
"I will give the fans a surprise," he stated. "What? Well I can’t tell you that otherwise it wouldn’t be a surprise would it?"
Speculation has suggested that Moratti could pick up his present for the Nerazzurri faithful from La Liga.
Barcelona ace Ronaldinho has been associated with the club for some time, as has Real Madrid’s Michael Owen.
Brazilian starlet Robinho is another option even if he seems almost certain to be joining Real this summer.
However, the most likely ‘surprise’ will probably come from Roma in the shape of either Antonio Cassano or Cristian Chivu.
Cassano is believed to be on his way out of the Giallorossi even if Juventus are heavily interested in the attacking talent.
While Chivu would be an excellent addition to the side given their problems defensively this term.
Inter almost signed the Romanian two years ago but didn’t take up their option on him which allowed Roma to swoop for the then Ajax man.
