Are you fucking kidding me? As it has already been pointed out, Hamas is an Israeli brainchild. Furthermore, if the people of Gaza were not pushed to the brink of desparation from being occupied ruthlessly all these years, they wouldn't vote for Hamas and it wouldn't be a problem. Israel are very good at this. You are so superior when it comes to military and financial firepower that any worsening of the situation only benefits Israel. It's not in Israel's interest to find a peaceful solution to the problem, since they are winning handsomely as it stands right now, Palestine is being eaten by further settlements every day, Israel is growing and the US of A block any attempts to put pressure on Israel through the United Nations. One state, one people and then the Arabs can be a political minority within Israel if they want, if not they can leave.
Simply though, how could any logical Isreali truly believe killing Palestinian women and children is going to contribute to peace and the safety of Isreali citizens? This methodology has been tried and tested time after time only to further exacerbate the crises. You only harden young Palestinians resolve against the Jewish state and create more hate by killing their mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters. Will this stop rockets being fired into Isreal?
Of course it won't. There's no way that Netanyahu is stupid enough to believe that. As Rab's friend said, they'll take any excuse to continue operations such as these. They would wipe out every Palastinian in Gaza if they had a big enough excuse because they are religious extremists with a sacred mandate to remove Palastinians from their homes by whatever means necessary.

Of course, killing innocent Palestinian women and children will not contribute in any way to the safety of Israeli citizens, that is true. Therefor, the IDF is not trying to kill those women and children, but to destroy houses. Hamas is using these houses as rockets arsenals, and placing the rockets launchers inside those houses. And Destroying rockets and launchers does contribute to the safety of Israeli citizens.

And yes, by only destroying Hamas' arsenals, infrastructure and killings few of it's important members, Israel will not get peace for the long run. It will get the Israeli citizans a few years of peace, but than it will all happen all over again. Therefor, I believe a more drastic action is needed, but that is for a completely other discussion.

This is my humble opinion:
Israel conquers Gaza, controls it from inside for a few months. The IDF would destroy the Hamas as much as possible, and then will make an agreement with Abu Mazen, to regain control over Gaza. With military support that Israel would supply Abu Mazen would rehabilitate Gaza using the billions of dollars that are being donated to Gaza from all over the world. When possible Israel would disengage from Gaza again, leaving it for Abu Mazen to control and would supply military support if a new Hamas tries again to take control over Gaza.
