Last time Holland lost vs Bulgaria was in '88 and they won the Euros that year :p
But seriously, Dutch defense is really bad.
way to put a positive spin on things :D

on a serious note, the problem is that the Dutch team of the late 80's was head and shoulders above this one, full of champions who thrived in high profile games. This one also has some talent on it but most of it is just for show and tends to choke when it really matters.

And yes, the defense is really gonna hurt the team unless van Marwijk changes tactics with more cover from the midfield, imo.

Stam is the only world class Dutch CB I've seen in the last ~20 years. The last world class Portuguese striker? Hmmm...Eusébio? :D
In the last 20 years we had Stam, Rijkaard, Frank de Boer & Ronald Koeman. Right now our best and only good CB is Heitinga.

We're already playing 4231 instead of the usual 433, with van Bommel and de Jong to cover for the weak defense. People here want to see attacking football and not defensive/counter football. So far with van Marwijk the results were pretty good, but if they crash out early during the Euros then for sure many will complain.

he holland is going to rock on the euro's it is just a friendly to try stuff
Our team is not great but works well together. I am sure we will do much much better at the euros.
Holland

I didn't watch the game, so I don't know if it was just bad luck or that van marwijk tried stuff but I think he did.

I think we actually do need kuyt to cover for defence and we are again going to play a counter football result focus euro's
But I take that over the fancy Dutch style with the current squad. But van marwijk is getting critize already in Holland something didn't happen before the world cup
because he let urby out of the squad. Which I totally agree on. Since Urby sucks ass as LB and Willems has potential to become a great leftback. But we do need kuyt I think to cover. Specially against those fucking Portuguese.
Good Germany lost too they aren't unbeatable too.

Frank de boer was not world class

Maybe not world class like Stam or Rijkaard, but definitely much better than what we have right now.

I agree with taking Willems who has potential to be a very good LB and he did okay on his debut, but Anita or Urby would've been much better than Bouma who's a total joke.

Our starting line-up today is pretty much the one we would play without Robben and Afellay: vdVaart on the left, vPersie right and Huntelaar at CF. Hopefully van Marwijk noticed that there's not enough width with these 3 players, because everyone wants to go to the center of the pitch.

Hmmm, I was thinking more of pure defenders, but maybe I should have said 15 years.
Then you're right and Stam is the only world class CB we had.

Every kid here wants to be a forward or midfielder, so only the ones who's not good enough will play as defender. :p
But we have some good talented defenders in our youth teams who will hopefully be ready in 2014 or 2016.

I think Bouma is 4th choice CB. and Schaars is reserve LB. Anita had to compete for a midfield position (the only position he convinced me to be good enough for ajax let alone in the nt). urby was a number 10/leftwinger in van marwijk eyes and he has also much competition in those place.
Still I would have took him and let Schaars at home. But this is the squad we have now.
so we played with van persie Right and Van der vaart left?
Ok now I am hundred percent sure we going to do much better in the euro's
a shame maher didn't go to the euro's yes  but after the euro's he will soon become an important player for the nt. And we have narsingh as joker
I have faith in this team. And hugh respect for Willems what a season the guy had.
I saw him play for the under 17 in may 2011 and now he going to be starting leftback at the real euros. Big talent in my eyes. Just like holland always haves

him and stam were amazing.

Rekik and Ake are probably our biggest talents for CB, but we'll see how they develop because it won't be easy for them as youngsters playing for City and Chelsea. A lot of potential in the U17 team that won Euro last year (Achahbar, Trindade de Vilhena, Kyle Ebecilio) and I agree, Maher will be big.

Yes that is why I am really disappointed they and Ebicilio already left before breaking through in the dutch league
Hopefully they can still reach their potential. I do like van Rijn too I think he and van der wiel are good option at rb and heitinga is still too very young. Maybe Viergever and de Vrij also develop atleast to a decent level. I like de Vrij more since he moved to the center.

and from that under 17 team I liked those players and also that Kongolo guy.

The future of Holland is very bright in my eyes
