Aquilani and montolivo are nothing special, I'm convinced marchisio could have done a better job. He's destroyed ronaldinho once before.

Luca Toni is the worst Italian(NT) striker. I've been saying that for ages... well mostly just the Bayern games I've seen this year.
Awful, but apart from amauri who we haven't even got. Who else is capable of world class striking?

That's a good question that needs answered. I really don't think Italy has a World Class striker right now. That said they do have some very good players to choose from. Del Piero, Rossi has massive potential, I've always liked Gilardino but he's sucked for the National Team lately.

The biggest issue with the Italian National team is that they haven't really tried out any youngsters or other strikers than what they won with in '06. That was their problem in the Euros too. They hadn't tried anyone new so Donadoni had no idea when his "usuals" broke down. The last time I checked friendlies were for giving new players a shot, especially when a lot of your current squad is facing retirement in the next 5 years.

For me gila is on the same page as toni, useless, he has lost his sharpness.
The old guard have lost their hunger and pirlo is absolutley criminal, iaquinta? Why?!
Italy needs a total change in it's philosophy to the game if it is to avoid becoming a has been. It needs to move with the times and give faith to youngsters.
My ideal line up(highly unlikely)
Buffon
Zambro-chiellini-santacroce-grosso
Marchisio-de rossi(c)-montolivo/aquilani(I don't like neither but cigarini isn't an option ATM)
Gio/balotelli-rossi/balotelli
Aquafresca/balotelli
Give this line up some time and it would blossom into a great team

the thing is, these things dont change like that. Its obvious italy needs to bring in new players, but you here pretty much bring in new player to every position. and instantly.

to be honest, i think people are overreacting.

Hence the highly unlikely.
But I agree with snake midget unless Italy change their football philosophy and start giving chances to players less than 24 Italy are going to go the way of the dodo, football is evolving but Italy are too stubborn to move with it, the mentality streaches from siere A where youngsters are still not trusted within the big teams, it's something that needs to change quick.

Germany are a different case to Italy and France - but tbh they looked exausted and could never out muscle Spain. Unfortunetly football has gone from being tactical and technique to how fast and strong you are + technique
At least Germany started to change thing a while back.
Italy + France left it till after the euros and it's gonna take a while until they regain their reputation and become powerful again.

That i agree with. And thats the real problem here, you have Giovinco there on your lineup, the lad is a backup for a 37 year old player, and gets about 15 minutes of playing time in every 3 round.

The other problem with italy, though is that certain talent is lacking in certain areas, there just isnt enough good options, like lets say CD position, Chiellini and?.......Santacroce&Gamberini, Bovo??? and thats pretty much it.
RB position? Zambro and???

Well this is all to do with the idiot coaches, i mean Donadoni called Panucci and Ambrosini to the squad, heck gave Ambro the captain armband. From the first friendly, i knew that wouldnt end nicely.

Italy have the talent, what is missing are the balls.

There are enough young players who should be given a chance but Lippi seems to play the save card and count on the veterans. Why doesn't he play the qualification with all the young guns?

That's who I'd constantly call-up till the WC 2010:

Buffon
Amelia
Marchetti

Maggio
Motta
Santacroce
Chiellini
Santon?
Carrozzieri?
Paolo Cannavaro
Gamberini
Criscito
Bocchetti?

Marchisio
De Rossi
D'Agostino
Cigarini

Cassano
Acquafresca
G.Rossi
Floccari

Just to name a few.Not all of these players are world-class yet,but better than the old punks Italy are playing with.Let Toni,Perrotta,Pepe and the rest of the chokers at home.Time for a revolution,Lippi. And I'm not just saying this based on the Brazil game.
