the future belongs to argentine, brazil, spain and arguably england.
italy, germany and france are over.
Woow now thats a big statement. Nations like italy, germany and brazil will always be up there challenging for titles.

I remember in the late 90's people were arguing that germany is no longer a great football nation and that they don't have young quality players anymore, few years later in 2002 they reached the WC final and last summer they were pretty close to winning the euros.

Don't matter if they have WC players or not they will always be close to the top....

The French at least have some u-25 talent in the team.
Ribery, Gourcuff, Benzema, Sagna, Clichy, Nasri, Lassana Diarra, Toulalan, Flamini etc. Most of them are already world class and the others could be there in 2010, just in time for the WC.
The French had problems replacing the stars from the late 90's and early-mid 2000's and it resulted with a horrible EC last summer, but you can expect a very strong French NT in the following years.
I don't know about the Germans. Even when they lack talent they somehow manage to get the results.
But Italy does have a problem.

Italy have the talent, what is missing are the balls.

There are enough young players who should be given a chance but Lippi seems to play the save card and count on the veterans. Why doesn't he play the qualification with all the young guns?

That's who I'd constantly call-up till the WC 2010:

Buffon
Amelia
Marchetti

Maggio
Motta
Santacroce
Chiellini
Santon?
Carrozzieri?
Paolo Cannavaro
Gamberini
Criscito
Bocchetti?

Marchisio
De Rossi
D'Agostino
Cigarini

Cassano
Acquafresca
G.Rossi
Floccari

Just to name a few.Not all of these players are world-class yet,but better than the old punks Italy are playing with.Let Toni,Perrotta,Pepe and the rest of the chokers at home.Time for a revolution,Lippi. And I'm not just saying this based on the Brazil game.
any wingers?

Expand please alen I think Italy + France are in the same boat after both having golden generations, the only difference I see is the fact that their players get to play(xcept flamini) as they are all abroad, but with a coach like domenech I don't expect them to come good at least for a year or two. Italy can do this if lippi is willing to take a risk because there is some very good potential world class players there.
Like I said before I think Italian philosophy in the game has to change.

Heck, this lineup would've performed better against Brazil today:

Buffon
[Zambrotta] Legrottaglie Chiellini Molinaro
Camoranesi Zanetti Marchisio Giovinco
Iaquinta Del Piero

Yeah, but there is one very important difference if we talk about the WC 2010.
Italian golden boys were the generations 1973-1979. The French golden boys were the guys born in 1972-1977. The French were short of quality players born in 1978-1982 and they had a tough time replacing the golden boys. But they produced a lot of quality players born +1983.
Italians on the other hand were short of quality in generations 1980-1982 (Cassano and Gilardino are the only ones who made it and even they did nothing for the NT), but the problem with them is that there isn't as much quality even in generations born 1983-1985 (De Rossi and Chiellini are the only real quality players).
Now Italians have to hope that the guys born +1986 (Rossi, Giovinco, Marchisio, De Ceglie, Santacroce, Acquafresca, Cigarini, Balotelli) will grow good enough to replace the oldies.

The "new boys" in the French team will be 24-27 in 2010. It's perfect age. The Italian new guys, like Rossi, Balotelli and Giovinco will be 20-23 in South Africa and it's too early to make an impact.
Even if the latest italian generation succeeds, they'll do it starting from EC 2012.

Imo, the French will have a better team in 2010.

Nice logic there breaking it up into the year groups 1 year isn't a lot in age difference but it does mean a lot in terms of EXP. I hadn't thought of it like that.

i dont know why lippi is playing 4-3-3 when he fully saw donadoni fail with that formation...
i also dont know why he's not calling up cassano when he is clearly more useful than the other call ups.
