See the problem there is that very few catholics follow their religion either... You dont and i doubt you know anyone short of your priest that does... the only real difference between the average catholic and agnoxtic, protestant etc is the tag they wish to wear
Actually I do know people who live up to their religion's standards...I might not and of course people are not always going to be perfect. I really do not see the point you're trying to make.

The point is that you walk around waving this badge, but you live no different to the agnostic next to you, or the athiest or the protestant... absolute hipocrisy

It's not hipocrisy because we all are essentially the same yet not everybody has the same beliefs.

I, as a Catholic shortly after birth, do not go around judging people and holding a gun to the heads of others ordering them to change their lives around to fit my beliefs. All the Catholics I personally know live and let live, and that's my feeling on this subject.

Beck is a good Catholic because he doesn't hate gays, wanks, does not got to Church every sunday, and has sex.

The bad Catholics are the ones that are so strict they refuse to masturbate and have to tell their little Priest friends so they can sleep better.

But I do, Paul. I do. Perhaps not all of them because of natural sin, but the major rules I do follow. Not sure how you can say I'm a hypocrite in this matter...you're not familiar with what I have/haven't done.

In your opinion that is. In my opinion I'd suffer more. And like I said, the likeliness of having to suffer in the afterlife as well is too big.

Seven, amico mio....

One chooses ones path, obviously. You choose to live the "I am self sufficient and worthy of respect and being listened to here"; another member (swag, for example) chooses the "I will respect and listen to others, and put them ahead of myself" route.

Who gets banned every 5 seconds? (And yes, I take banning here as a symbol of punishment for those who fail to live in community).

Put another way....

If you had to live next door to a person (with NO exchange of finances), who would it be? a believer of modest means or Bill Gates? I'd pick the believer, as I've found that, for the most part, those whom society deems as successful, don't give a sh.it about anyone but themselves. Usually.

 The same goes for most religious people, regardless of religion.

I don't see the relevance at all.

There in lies the question, do those decisions go hand in hand with the teachings? If not, than how can you call yourself an examplary, "modern" catholic?

Yea, but SO WHAT?

You are an idiot if you choose not to live next to Bill Gates because his house size would drive your property value up drastically.

Lou, I'm quitting this discussion. I have been in heated discussions before about catholicism (in my class as well) and I don't feel the need to go there again. I'm sure you'll have your reasons to believe and although I don't feel they're founded, I don't want go on about them.

Im not saying , you per se are a hypocrit, im saying 99% of those wearing this religious tag are hypocrits...

I am interested in what exactly these important parts you follow are... You dont follow the life style your religion requires...

eg, you are happy with sex before marriage, you are happy with sex for pleasurable purposes, you believe in contraception, You have no issue with homosexuality, you accept abortion, you dont attend church every week, you do not partake in lent etc etc...

I struggle to see how you can call yourself a catholic if you do not follow the lifestyle the faith requires...

To say you hold firm the basic humanitarian expectations of a religion, to me without adhering to the lifestyle, doesnt make you a cathoplic... it makes you a normal , decent human being...

ok so before i go on i must say *these are not my personal beliefs but i want to make a point
you guys seem to be labelling all cathoilcs with the same brush, pity it seems that to you catholics are the ,uptight,judgemental,sex-fearing,homophobic assholes that was perhaps the norm 70 years agobut they are in the minority and most catholics are open minded and not ruled by what the vatican says.
*so does that mean that all muslims are terrorists who want to kill any non-believer?of course it does not but i am sure if you were to ask joe public in america and probably parts of europe they would tell you that is what they think of when you talk about islamics. again this is not my beliefs i have made many muslim and protestant friend over the years and we never talk about religion and never judge each others beliefs.
