So Catholicism... nice idea et all, but such a shame it has become a synonym of 'judgemental'

We don't need it, it only makes the world a worse place than it already is as Catholics go around judging people who are 'different', showing them no respect and stripping them of their freedom.

Perhaps you're like that. But the impression I get with a lot of Catholics is that they think exactly like you. Only to be the most intolerant people there are. And then they even go on about the fact I should live and let live.

That doesn't go for the representatives of Catholicism though: the Vatican. Don't you feel you need to distance yourself from them? How proud can you be of referring to yourself as a "Catholic" when your religion is being abused by those in power to express some of the most judgemental views in the world and enforce them on entire nations?

Mostly true. Many of the world's "Catholics" are in disagreement with the church on a lot of points of theology. Contraceptives and abortion are probably the two biggest in the West. Then you've got the greedy, the agressive, those who don't help their fellow man.

If people really believe in God, in the afterlife, in church doctrine, why don't they live like they do? Or do they just go through the motions?

Everyone keeps saying how they feel personaly about others, but what does your religions say about it? For instance, Andy and Fabi, I understand your views on things, but that doesn't mean anything, what matters is what your religion teaches. What the bible says, and how you interpret that is what it comes down to. So what does the bible have to say about homosexuality for instance? Do you have any knowledge about this?

My mother considers the former pope a murderer for being opposed against condoms. Have to say I agree because what he says is law in some countries. He had to power to save lives and chose not to.

In all reality the only thing you can be without being a total and utter moron is agnostic. I don't want to be offensive towards religions, but it's so blatant we know shit, that it sounds surreal not to be agnostic.

How exactly are we forcing them out on other nations? And no, I don't have to feel ashamed because my beliefs don't solely originate from the Vatican..you have to look deeper, Erik.

IMO that's because you become religious because you're scared. It sounds logical to me you suddenly start believing in God. Because if there turns out to be one and you're wrong, that'll pretty much suck.

However there's another reason to be agnostic:

When you're a christian for example, a great deal of your life will basically consist of suffering, since you can't do certain things. Then when you get up there in heaven it turns out you were wrong. So you'll be made to suffer for all eternity. The odds of you picking out the right religion are pretty slim, so being agnostic is a safer bet.

Actually, it may go along with that, yeah. As we start to slow down, it suddenly dawns on one that one is not immortal (at least not in an earthly sense ). You see too much to be able to ignore Divine intervention. Or miracles (trust me on that one).
