No, I never speak on behalf of the entire world. I haven't even visited any nation outside Europe.
And I only seldomly make general statements about the Netherlands either. I usually refer to the majority though, I meant that this time again. Thought that was clear but maybe I should have used different words.

But what I remeber now: you tend to use words, which means generalisations just like that: people instead of some people, all instead of some etc.
Like when we were talking about match in UEFA Cup: you used 2-3 generalisations on 1 page of talk.

National boundires are a convention, they don't really exist. They are just lines on a map, political divisions. Of course there will always be cultural differences between people living far away places, but these are diminishing. The nation-state as we know it is slowly losing its power and I think someday, thanks to things like the internet, television, global telecommunication, air travel, etc. we may not have Americans and Italians and Chinese and Iraqis but we may just have people. And if it was done right wouldn't that be a wonderful world to live in? Sure it may require some out of the box thinking but just look where all of the postsers in this discussion come from. Everyone was able to wiegh in with their opinion, respond to other peoples points, etc. from all over the world, all in minutes. Such a thing would have been impossible 100 years ago, even 20 years ago. Who knows what the future holds?

The thing that pisses me the most is when Mexicans come over the boarder to our country, and live their life like they still live in Mexico. What I mean by this is that their lifestyle remains the same; for example, they seem like they're not trying to improve their English, and expect everything to be made clear to them in their native langauge. I seen situations where Immigrants think that everybody should interact with them in their Native voices, but I got news for them: not everybody speaks Spanish or Arabic or whatever. They get angry when nothing is done for them, and take it out in other actions. How are we able to help them if they don't understand how things work around here. All I ever see Mexicans doing around here is making people scared at the local mall, sitting outside of comercial stores like 7-11, and getting a hot temper when nothing goes their way. They should learn how to speak a little English first, then get a job and go on from there.

There is this Pizza place in my town that I often go to. It's owned by this older Italian guy and his daughter. They have a number of Mexican employees who work there. Now when the old Italian guy is there, the Pizzeria runs horribly. He yells at kids, has a hard time keeping track of who pays and who doesn't. He is always confused, screwing up orders, the kitchen looks like it is a mad house. His daughter is just mean and treats the customers very poorly and doesn't show any respect for someone like me who has been there hundreds of times before. She thinks I would do something like walk out with paying, and really creates a hassle. Now when the owners aren't there, the Mexican guys run the place like clockwork. They are always very friendly, on top of things, treat the customers well. It brings such a smile to my face when I walk in there and don't see either the owner or his daughter because I know I am going to have a plesant dining expierence.
Now this is just an anecdote and both the Mexicans and the old Italian guys are probably immigrants, but most pople would say the Italian guy was American before the Mexicans. They may be here illegally, they may not speak the best English (although neither does the old Italian guy), they are almost certianly forced to work long hours, probably aren't very well educated (at least here in the US), get paid poorly and under the table. It just always amazes me they are able to run the pizzeria so much better then the owner. If only the old guy would stay home, the place would be so much better.
Around here, Mexicans line up at the train station as day laborers. They get picked up by contractors or whoever, get paid like $100 to do some meinal job. They have to work all day, don't have any insurance or anything like that. But they are just trying to work hard and provide for their family. They want their kids to have an easier time then they did. And to be honest, someone in society needs to fill those sort of jobs. And if its immigrants who are willing to do whatever just to get a foot in the door, then good for them. There isn't any shame at all in that. And yes, some of them don't try to assimilate or anything, don't learn the language, live off welfare and unemployment or whatever. However I know a lot of "real Americans" that do that too, if not moreso.

Thank you for that great post BigIzz. You truly know that not all mexicans are the same like many people assume.
Imo never. People will always see you as a guest just because you weren't born here or because you are from a different culture. My whole family is legal in this country and we have been living here for many years. We are all citizens now, yet everyone assumes that just because we are Mexicans we must be illegal.

Well Andy, I trully understand why you are angry with those mexicans. To tell you the truth I also hate people like them that are only here to increase violence in our communities.
Regarding your previous post....I remember that you once said that you saw a game between the US and Mexico and the mexicans were yelling 'Osama', and that because of that you have lost respect to mexicans. Maybe I'm just jumping into conclusions or something but these sort of posts make me assume that you hate Mexicans in general. Even though I agree with you that what they yelled was very wrong, but again we are not all like that.

For the recored Scotland is actually trying to recruit any and all imigrants due to a population decline (irrespective of qualifications)
What gets me though is the xenophobic tv and radio programmes we get in the UK blaming immigrants for everything from almost all crime, to the increase in the defecit in the balance of payments.
You get Joe Bloggs from Hackney phoning in saying the country's going to the dogs, and he's had enough, and he's going to leave Britain, and go to Australia or Canada to live...with no job...no money...blah, blah, blah. (see the irony folks!)
Can I ask the question...where do we get the idea that the UK offers the best financial package? What are these figures and their sources? Seen it used by the right wingers in the media, but no one has actually put up.
The same people who say that England subsidises Scotland, but only decide to use those stats that suit their claims while ignoring others which completly smash their argument to pieces...but those stats never reach the media in England for some reason, so the masses down there think it's all true.
We had stories circulated that imigrants were getting grants of ten thousand pounds for cars so that they could go job hunting whilst Brits had to walk, jumping queues for the best public housing, payed to take taxis to and from the benfit centre, jumping the queue for medical treatment, and so on ...all proved complete nonsense, but now ingrained in psyche of the public.
True that Britain, as a small country, can only take so many immigrants before we start to sink into the Atlantic, but we should ask the question first why we don't have enough doctors, engineers, etc, of our own before we go blaming people who mostly are here to improve themselves and contribute. Those who are here to scrounge usually get found out eventually and shown the door, these are the small minority. Lets give the rest a helping hand up...for the sake of the UK
