Cafu never came in the top 3 of either the Ballon d'Or or the FIFA World Player of the Year.

Maldini came second to Weah in the FIFA award and he twice came third in the Ballon d'Or. Each time a Juve player finished ahead of him. The year when Nedved won it and when Stoichkov won it and Baggio came second.

On their top form and at their peak, who is better: Canna, Nesta, Maldini, or Thuram?

I will say Canna because I have never seen an unbeatable defender he was simply invincible during that month of 2006.

Canna only because of 06 WC, Nesta, Maldini, Thuram

Nesta was/is better than Cannavaro over their whole careers though.

I would say in that order Cannavaro, Nesta, Thuram and then Maldini but I don't know why you chose those players in particular, there are much more better defenders during that generation.

Great great interview.

Im happy that i was able to see live some of the most important moment of his career, like the tokyo goal, that wonderfull goal against germany and the bernabeu standing ovation (this alone would make any footballer feel fulfilled)

Naah, I don't think anyone comes close to these four. At pure one-on-one, last minute slide-tackling, badass, intelligent defending.

- Which defender gave you most problems?
Cannavaro, Nesta and Thuram. I found it boring playing against them because of their ability to anticipate.

:D

I always preferred Nesta to the other two, I don't think they rival his consistency. And he can say what he wants about Cannavaro, but I'll never forget this game.
