What's a local legend?
A player that stuck with one club, maybe local wasn't the correct word. A player that stuck with one club, but like always you'll run with whatever suits your tolling best and get all offended at someone not revering Del Piero like a god.

In any case, his status and appreciation got better partly because of sticking with Juve. You can't really tell me that Del Piero has at any point in time been as good as Ronaldo or Ronaldinho were when they were the greatest in the world.

It's like Raul at Madrid, yeah, he was very, very good but hardly the best one in the world even in his prime but he was a local kid and that made people boost his importance and ability.

Why is what Alen is doing considered trolling because it is in the Del Piero thread?

Plenty people have gone on campaigns against other players and no-one has suggested it was trolling.

Next thing he'll be described as an urban legend.
See? DP fans can't read here or attempt to actually understand what is said, in their heads it just goes "Danger Will Robinson! Someone dared to insult Delpi! Must regain honor now!".

BTW,

I guess it doesn't take much to be a club legend.
The post I quoted said "We have a world class legend in our team....... Who else can say that?" and to that...opinion (yeah, cause Delpi is the only world class player in the world. Dammit people, do you even read what you write?!) is what I responded to.

I love them both. Not sure of their legendary statuses though.

Raul in his prime was one of the best players. Playing for a top team like Real Madrid for so long requires greatness.

Hmmm, yes and no.

That Del Piero is primary a local Juve legend is a fact, but that's the case with most of the legendary players. But he's also very famous worldwide and for some reasons (which have to do with his quality as a player, with lasting long, with his character etc) he is respected world wide.

What you mean is that he's not a world football legend like many other players are, who are rated the same both by the world and by their local clubs. Players like Maradona, Zidane, Messi, Ronaldinho etc. With DP that's not the case because he's rated much higher locally than internationally (but this doesn't mean that he's not rated high internationally)
That's true and it's because he, almost never, was among the best 3 players in the world (for example, he never made the ballon d'or top 3 in his 17 year old career.) To be a world legend you also need to be consistently the best or among the 3 best in the world, the way Maradona, Zidane, Messi were/are.

Easy, you and most of the people here just read whatever you want from a post to try to ridicule a person because they don't love Del Piero instead of having a discussion.

Look at this thread, 90% is wanking off to photos and quotes. It's embarrassing.

Ronaldo and Ronaldinho not legends? Are you kidding me? Ronaldo is one of the best players the world has seen during the last 15 years. He won the World Cup 3 times and was unstoppable at Barca and Madrid. Ronaldinho burned out a bit quicker but when at Barca he was incredible and I think it's laughable to suggest he's not a legend, when you so obviously think Del Piero is, when they both reached a status that Del Piero never got to.

We really need sarcasm smilies for folks like yourself.:sergio:

You use the term legend loosely. Do you know what a club legend is? What has Ibra done to earn himself legendary status at milan if he's just arrived this season? What has Ronaldo or Kaka done? What has Arshavin done to be labeled a legend. Don't tell me about the "world class" bit when you don't even know what a club legend is.

Learn to read mate. The post I quoted mentioned "We have a world class legend, who else can say that?". The amount of ignorance in that post is outstanding.

In any case, to have it clear for you, world class legend DOES NOT EQUAL club legend. A world class legend is exactly that, an incredible player, regardless of where he plays. Including Arshavin was stretching it to be fair but Juve is not the only team in the world with a world class player! That's ridiculous, not to mention Del Piero is not even a world class player at this point in time.

Just because the only posts you care to read are Del Piero related ones doesn't mean that I only talk about him, unlike yourself and your crusade to convince people Del Piero is still world class.

I think the guy is right when he says that you don't read the posts and that people just reply for the sake of replying :D

That Dragula guy said "We have a world class legend in our team...who else has that"

He didn't say that we have a a club legend. He said that in Juve we have a world class legend and no-one else has a world class legend.
This VicCB guy replied by mentioning other teams who have world class legends.
And yes, Cristiano Ronaldo is world class and he's already one of the legendary football players because we both know that he will be remembered as a world class player who won a lot.

I read fine, don't worry about me. The first sentence of your second paragraph is kinda obvious.

So what exactly are the criteria for being a WC legend?

I read clearly. I was bringing up the fact that he listed Ibra as a legend. What exactly has he done at Milan? What has Arshavin done? What has Ronaldo or Kaka done at Real.

He listed those names with the clubs & that's why i brought it up.

Thank you, I think you expressed it better than I did. I never meant to say he wasn't famous worldwide, but that he's rated much higher locally and by its club fans than people outside that circle. I think it's interesting, I think it has to do with tribal mentality. When people view a player as "theirs" and that grew up with them and stuck with them, then they are going to fawn over and increase his importance and even exaggerate a bit his ability because of that.

I really like the Raul example actually. He's a great player for sure, and for many years a very important part of Madrid but he was never very skilled or the greatest striker in the world. That's not to take away from his accomplishments, which were several, but I can safely say that Madrid fans rate him much, much higher than everyone else, unlike players like Messi, who regardless of who you are a fan of you can't help but be impressed by his skill.
