Del Piero not sorry for sub tantrum

Alessandro Del Piero insists he does “not regret” angrily throwing his coat to the ground after a substitution.

The Juventus captain was visibly irritated after he made way for Sebastian Giovinco during last night’s 1-0 win over Fiorentina.

“I threw it because they gave me the wrong size coat again!” joked the Bianconeri veteran.

“These things can happen and it’s natural to react that way when you’re in the heat of the moment,” he explained.

“It was not a good thing to do, but I don’t regret it either. When you are fired up and in the game, nobody likes to be substituted.

“After a few minutes the anger dissipates and it’s all over. There really is nothing to report on here.”

Fiorentina were furious after this defeat, as Alberto Gilardino had a valid goal ruled offside and Stevan Jovetic’s penalty shout for an Olof Mellberg trip was ignored.

“Quite aside from any refereeing errors, which I have not seen, I must say Fiorentina have every reason to feel they deserved more,” continued Del Piero.

“They played very well and put us under a lot of pressure. They should be praised for that performance and made life extremely difficult for us.”

Juventus have caught leaders Inter at the top of the table and await tonight’s result against Sampdoria.

haha Del always comes up with these witty lines. He's probably one of very few in the sport who are good at avoiding annoying cliches. Him, Mourinho, Buffon are the ones I can think of at the moment.

If Ranieri subbed him so he could be fresh against Udine than why he didn't subbed Nedved who I'm sure will be in starting lineup again. I agree with Badass when he said that Alex needs a little bit of rotation, but there were dozens of games where result was in no doubt and Ranieri kept him for entire 90 mins. But in game like it was last night Alex was needed, cuz he can make a difference with one move. However one thing that Ranieri was right is when he said that we needed fresh legs, a player who can dribble defence a make problems for them.

The difference of being a rat and a Juve player.
