Alex’s Juve D-day nears

Alessandro Del Piero is ready to restart contract talks with Juventus this week, but it is believed that he won’t accept a pay cut.

The talismanic captain was expected to commit the remainder of his career to the Bianconeri this summer, but while deals were done with David Trezeguet, Mauro Camoranesi and Pavel Nedved, he is still unsatisfied.

Sources suggest that Pinturricchio is unhappy that Juve want him to continue at the club until 2010 on a reduced salary of around 30 per cent less than his current wage.

During previous negotiations, Del Piero blasted the club for “a lack of respect” and he is said to be aggrieved that Nedved received a more generous offer despite his advanced age.

Alex’s agent and brother Stefano is due to meet with Old Lady officials once more this week in the hope of finding an amicable settlement and preventing one of calcio’s most high-profile marriages ending in a messy divorce.

No One Player is more important than JUVE. Youngsters may think the Juve universe revolves around Pinturricchio but my father taught me long ago as his love of Juve was handed down to me - players come and go. Even the greatest of all like Sivori and Platini, but Juve is forever. These players OWE JUVE for giving them the opportunity to flourish on the world stage on a team that surrounds them with the tools to become great players. It's not the other way around. Juve is the constant and the players are the variable.

Del Piero was a great player. He is now less of a player than what he was 5 years ago and his pay should reflect that. It is for the GOOD of JUVE for this to happen and when it comes right down to it, it is what Alex should be HAPPY to do for the club that has given him the opportunity to become the player he was.

I am a JUVE fan. Is Alex a JUVE fan? If he was he should be more than willing to do what is best for the future of the club rather than attempt to get as much money as he can at an age when even HE knows his abilities are a shadow of what they were at his prime. The same could be said for Nedved.

As for Camo - he is at the peak of his prime right now. This is the age when he is expected to seek his top contract as a professional player as it could be his last chance to do so. 5 years from now that will not be the case.

That is one of the worst posts I've read here....

Of course no player is bigger than a club, but what's your point?

Is Alex trying to prove that he's bigger than a club?

is Alex trying to prove he's bigger than Juve fans?

is and is..... If Ale would have been all this he wouldn't come out the 1st one and state that he's in Juve for life whether it's B or C.

He ALREADY had TWO pay-cuts, to ask him more, would be over the limit. Apart from no one is bigger than a club which has nothing to do with Ale not accepting the Club's contract offers, he's Juventus symbol, Juventus Idol, fans idol, Juventus Captain, all time scorer, Juve's fan fav player ever, bring media and advs to the club.... etc

So Cobolli and his folks can go blow it up somewhere else, If Alex would accept a pay-cut me as Ale admirer i'd be really upset and wouldn't be happy with his decision. He has served this club more than any other player in Serie A ATM apart from Maldini. So would be a shame on this new mang to do such a thing.

I don't think Moggi or Angeli(may he RIP) would be happy with what the club is currently doing with someone like Alessandro Del Piero.

Del Piero IS a great player, mind you take the "Was" and put it somewhere else..

You can't say the "Was" word when he has over-took record being all time juventus scorer, 219 and the number keep increasin.

You can't say "was" when he has been our most decent player in the last couple of years, check your stats and facts, boy.

you can't say "Was" when someone like Ale has won the world cup. etc...

So Ale should be happy that Juventus gave him the opportunity to play with them? :howler:, your father REALLY knows a thing or two about football.

FFS, It's for Juve's good that they signed someone like Alex from Padova, if not Juve, someone else would have signed that talented player who was playing for Padova. I guess you recently started following Juve ehhh?

Alex is a Juve fan more than you and your entire family will ever be. Questioning whether Alex is a Juve fan or not is simply lame, you either trying to provoke members or you're acting stupid, should be one of them.

Let me start this post by saying that Alessandro del Piero is the one soccer player I would try to approach in real life. As a rule of thumb I don't approach celebrities because I know they would see me as just as a fan and because I don't want to disturb them. The reason I would approach Alex is simply that I would like to thank him. As an Italian Juventus star he has given me a lot of moments of joy.

However, I do not like to see people talk about what he has done for Juventus. Let's think about what Juventus did for del Piero for once. They gave him a career. They took a gamble on him. They made him their main man. Had del Piero played anywhere else, including Milan or Inter, he would have been ditched by the Italian public and the Italian NT coach after a couple of not so good years.

He gave Juventus a lot, but it works two ways. Amazingly enough, del Piero's still a very decent player. Even good enough to start a fair share of games for Juventus. But he's demanding a lot at the moment. I know it has to do with status, but thanks to Juventus del Piero was the world's best paid football player at one stage. It's Juventus who gave him a house and a car. So is it that unreasonable to ask for a paycut? Let's face facts, del Piero's slowly fading away, as it should be.

That is one of the worst posts I've read here....
I found his post very logical, though.
All of us (or most of us) here love Del Piero but he's mature for another pay cut.
Maldini is , for some years now, one of the worst payed players in Milan. 11 players in Milan earn more than Maldini and 6 of them earn as much as Maldini. He is their captain, their leader and their regular starter, apart from this year when he's injured. He is their idol, brings media and advs and so on. He took many pay cuts.
He knows he isn't irreplaceable anymore, he's not worth it to earn as much as the best players in the team and he won't get not even close to what's he getting in Milan in some other team.

You should understand that even from financial point of view Ale is not the same golden chicken anymore. I don't know for sure, it's only my guess, but i think that no kid in last 3 years became a Juve fan because of Del Piero. He isn't the one anymore who brings new fans and extra profit to the team. We, the older Juventini still love him and he's the favorite to most of us, but even when he'll be gone we'll love Juve the same and we'll buy Juve products with the names of the other Juve players.
All of us love Juve more than Ale ( or not all of us? ) and from this perspective it won't change a bit for us.
He is our idol and our leader ( more off than on the pitch lately) but we love Juve most of all and we'll find another idol and someone else will become teams leader.

He isn't offering the same quality anymore and his performances are not worth it the money he's getting right now.

I'd like it if the board offers him the money he's asking for. I don't want inside problems. But if our directors want nothing else but a pay cut then it's Ale who should accept this.
He is our 2nd highest earner and he isn't our 2nd best player anymore. Only 5 players in serie A are getting more money than Ale ( Kaka, Vieira, Ibra, Totti and Buffon). He is better payed than Pirlo, Gattuso, Trez, Camoranesi, Stankovic , everyone in Roma apart from Totti, everyone in Milan apart from Kaka, everyone in Fiorentina etc , and he's not better than these guys. He's getting almost the same money as Ibrahimovic, Totti and Buffon who , even though it's hard to admit, are much better players and much more influental than Ale at the moment and will be in the future.
It's sad but it's a fact.

Although I agree on few things you said there I disagree on the paycut. Especially when the paycut is 30%. He already accepted two in the past.
Lets not kid ourselves, without Del Piero last season we wouldn't have made it to Serie A so easily. We might have made it, but through second or third place. Ofcourse Alex did not do it alone, alot of thanks goes to Buffon as well. But when two or three players really carry the team on their shoulder and never whine (unlike Trezeguet or Camoranesi) they should be respected afterwards.. Remember he is not a bench player yet. He, alone with Trezeguet, are our best forwards..

I am a Del Piero fan, and I am biased towards him. But before I am a Del Piero fan, I am a Juventus fan. I supported Juventus before Del Piero started wearing the Juve Shirt and I am telling you he is still worth every single penny given to him if not more.

First of all how much is Maldini getting paid. Second, he is quite older than Alex don't you think? The difference is, Alex has something to give on the field unlike Maldini who is played mostly to honor him.

Shame on you Del Piero.
Shame on Del Piero for not accepting a 30% paycut...
Shame on Del Piero for being our current all time top scorer..
Shame on Del Piero for already accepting 2 paycuts..
Shame on Del Piero for Staying with us in Serie B..
Shame on Del Piero for carrying us on his shoulders back to Serie A..
Shame on Del Piero for winning all the trophies possible to win with a club..

The list goes on.. Do you want me to continue? Because if you say Shame on Del Piero for not accepting the 30% paycut there are other things you have to mention as well..

And its not just the paycut that Alex is not happy about. He wants a 2 year extension rather than 1 year. The club gave him a 1 year extension + 30% paycut.

So yeh, Shame on Del Piero for wanting to play more for Juventus.

Its only one extra year gee iam sure if he continues to play well and prove his worth he will get another year if he is that desperate. Why cant players leave the game still on top of there game instead of trying to continue while we all forget how good he once was why just remembering how bad he got at the end. Accept the one year Del Piero i am a fan of urs but its not like money is a issue. But i know its proberly about Nedved Camro trezuguet all getting there preferred deal why cant he get his i guess.
