Actually I would prefer Del Piero playing just for Juventus and leaving national team aside. There are new kids out there and desperate to play for the Azzurri. Alex doesn´t have the legs anymore for both Italy and Juventus. He should concentrate just on Juventus, like Nedved did.

Though I don't really like Donadoni but you can't argue with him choosing Ale in his qualification/friendly matches....A player like him is always needed. If you're talking about the age, then thats not an argument looking at his age.

The same 4years ago was said about Ale not having the legs and questioning why Trap is choosing him for the qualification rounds, but it turned out to be that Ale was MVP player to lead Italy to Euro 2004 looking at his goals assists and all stats.

You say Ale doesn't got the legs for both Juventus and Italy, but you want him to retire with the Azzurri and focus with Juventus? how logic you are....how long did it take you to think of such a theory?

Ale Del Piero is still important for both National Team and Juventus. You or anyone else can't deny that.

based purely on form Ale has to be a sure starter for all upcoming Azzurri matches...he is red-hot form in front of goal and can provide the creative spark that Italy will need to pry open the French defence

Esp with the current trend set by Totti/Nesta it would be good to see DP retire from NT for Juve as it always worries me more than anything when he plays for Italy, injuries or will his form for Juve be affected if he plays badly?

However Maradona said (in Champions mag article on no10's) that the difference between DP and Zizou was DP's joy for playing the game. That is DP's hallmark to the initiated and for this reason I doubt he would ever retire from playing for Italy.

I have always hated ADP.....for years I never forgave him for 'pulling a Henry (another player that I detest) in the EURO 2000' However I began to like him after witnessing his supreme loyalty to Juve and the azzurri. Now I love him because he is a true leader and is the epitome of a gentleman. His talent has never been in question for me ...but after he returned from injury he didin't seem to be as motivated as before...This however subsided and we are left eith the tenacious attacking animal that you are blessed with

I'll post couple points here:
1- I am against retiring any number, whether it was 10 for Alex, 1 for Buffon or Zoff ..etc Juventus is fully of legends.. We'll be running out of numbers in 20 years
2- Regarding the comparision between Alex and Platini. Its a difficult call. I had the pleasure of seeing both play, although I have to admit many of platini's matches were recorded. In my humble opinion, as a player they are both outstanding. Both are technically gifted and both had their mark on international football whether with clubs or national team. Everyone is entitled to his opinion to put one higher than the other BUT... Regarding juventus and players who served Juve if I had to chose between those two it has to be Del Piero. Alex just gave more. Whether it was appearances, goals, seasons, trophies..etc Let alone that he stayed with the team during the tough times.
Platini is an absolutely astonishing player with mind blowing skills.. But, in my personal opinion I'd favour Alex. I admit that I am biased towards Alex for what he has given us as fans and what he is still doing on and off the field. Keep in mind that these are comments from someone who totally warships platini.
