The idea of retiring a number is utter stupidity, not to say crass.

I know lets play with just ten players after DP retires to show how much we miss him.

Anyone who saw Platini play, knows who was the better player.
I saw Platini play and it's quite obvious Del Piero is much better. On Platini's best day he may be allowed to lace up Del Piero's boots. Del Piero is the greatest Juventino of all time and that's the bottom line

History yes.. Platini is a great footballer but it is true that he is not quite the same as Alex. In years to come, people will always associate Alex first with Juve, not Platini. I do agree we should honour Platini for what hes done, but Alex's contribution is not just on the pitch. He's a real man, has endured much more than most footballers have and still came out triumphant. If Ale leaves Juve, it is not just a loss on the pitch, but even his teammates have claimed that he is an inspiration in the locker room. He is a true bandiera of Juve.

If there's one player I'd really honor it'd be Scirea though

No he isn't: in the history of football Platini's standing is much greater.
Del Piero stood be this club, when it was relegated. Hence, he is a legend. A true Juventino.

But I must agree with you do to your superior form argumentation. Numbers does create legends. True heart does.

I didn't see Platini play but to say that Del Piero is the legend of the legends that will not be seen ever in the future is so much exaggerating.

We know how much he is important for the club currently but to call for retiring the shirt is so much.

But he is not the legend Del Piero is.
Whose standards are you using?

What the heck? How could you judge the players in the last century in one minute??

Give me one reason why we shouldn't retire the shirts numbered 1, 11, 16 & 17 then.

What did you see Platini play: the harmonica?

Cannot retire the 10. We are not Napoli, there will be other great players. While it is def an interesting thing to consider, if not Platini why DP? Why not retire Boniperti's no? (8 I think though could be wrong - not about to Wiki for half hr just to pretend to be informed)

Milan look dumb having retired the 6, it is like admitting you will never have a better player whereas one can look at the 10 and see some great players to have inhabited it and make it their own, Platini, Baggio ffs, then DP, who next? Someone great for sure, it will still be special and the 10 like Juve will live on for future generations..

One thing is damn sure. We will never ever see such a good player in the Juve jersey again the day DP retires. We might aswell retire the whole club if we're thinking of retire the #10, since nothing gets better than Alessandro Del Piero.

Should we go on watching football after his retiring??

i am a die-hard Ale supporter but he isn't the be-all and end-all in football...Ale is a living legend but there will always be another Juve # 10, who we can only pray that can achieve what Ale has achieved in Turin

Should we go on watching football after his retiring??
:p

I guess the future no.10 jersey owner must feel the weight on his shoulder since so many great players aka Platini, Baggio and especially del piero wore the famous juve 10 jerseys.
some of you say juve should retire no10 jersey coz of dp legendary, some of you disagree due to many factors.
Personally, I think retiring a number is something not practical. i mean a team only has number from 1-99, that means a lot of common used numbers(usually 1-26?) will be retired since they are so many great names in football. Cruff@Barcelona, Best@MU their numbers do not retired so their legancy can carry on in another way....I doubt Roma will retired Number 10 if totti retired and I wonder if Milan will repeat Baresi stuff when Maldini retired. I don;t think so.
We have so many ways to honour del piero, e.g. get him in the director board, farewell game, etc etc..and when del piero goes to the heaven, i am sure a stature can be build to be place infront of the stadium or sth like that..
we don;t need to worry about that coz i am sure the management will get it cover up..
andp/s i am not gay, but i feel that some of you really look down on gay members/people, this is sad, because we r all equal, no one is superior than the other. You dun get ppl to respect u unless u learn to respect others first..
