Del Piero On Contract Talks: No Soap Opera Please

Juventus skipper insists that he does not want his contract talks with Juventus to turn into a soap opera.

Del Piero and Juventus have been locked in talks over a new contract, with the Juve skipper reportedly wanting a three year deal on the same terms as at present.

The club, however, insist on him taking a pay cut, and signing a two year extension only, which has resulted in the forward even labelling the offer as one "lacking respect."

However, the talks are set to resume, and Del Piero is keen to avoid more controversy.

"I’m not looking for a contract that lasts until the end of my career," he insisted, clarifying that he wasn't looking for a bumper retirement deal.

"I am determined that the whole thing doesn’t become a soap opera.

"I’m still highly motivated and have so many targets that I can achieve if my body allows me."

"If it were simply a financial issue I would have looked elsewhere as I could have done for the last few years," he continued.

"I don’t just want to play for the sake of it, I want to be a part of something important, not go through the motions."

I doubt he can have better deals elsewhere, and even if he does, he will be hated by some fans for that after all these years, he is not a fool to do something like that. A pay cut and an extension for two years doesn't sound as disrespect at all, if he doesn't mind the financial details as he claims..

Del Piero: “I'm ready for Cagliari”

Two victories in two matches: Juventus' season couldn't have started any better. But as always the focus is on the future: i.e. the next match, away from home against Cagliari, who have won two consecutive matches, like the Bianconeri, and have the right measure of enthusiasm to try for the big win.

Claudio Ranieri will be back at the club that was, in his own words, “his fairy tale as a manager”, for the second match against his past, after Wednesday's game in Parma. But the Manager will be able to count on one more weapon, compared to the game at the Tardini stadium: Alessandro Del Piero. The captain, who missed the Cup game, is ready: “I'm willing and able – he explained at today's press conference – the pain in my foot is gone and I've been training with my team mates for two days. I hope I can be called up to play the two Italy games too”.

Del Piero also explained the way the company that manages his various off-the-field activities is evolving. It is directed by his brother Stefano, who is also Alessandro's agent, and was present at the conference, where he was involved in the questions regarding the player's contract renewal. “We're not worried – they confirmed – we're in talks with the club and both parties wish to come to a solution. We don't want the situation to drag on and, most of all, we would never want it to ruin the team’s tranquillity”.

As for Del Piero himself, he restated something that can only make all Juventus supporters happy: “I want to stay here and I want to play for a long time still, so this won't be one of those ‘end-of-career’-type contracts. I'm fit, I'm fired up and I keep working every day to improve. This has always been my philosophy since I've been here at Juventus”.

He won't leave, he is too old to make a new career elsewhere and media are trying to unsettle the greatest club in the world.

Yeah, he is too old to play in the best european clubs, but he can play in some good clubs in italy, england, spain, fra, ger, and sure in usa, japan to get more millions in his bank account.
