Del Piero MOST definitely had a strong idea/thought of this being his last season, he said so himself in one interview before all this AA crap happened, but it was something he was considering (and if not announced, unsurprising.) why AA announced it instead of DP I will never know, but perhaps like Melo said if it all happened in the shareholders' meeting when asked that's fine but I still don't get why AA had to reaffirm it all.

it was basically not expecting him to be around next year.

absolutely shameful of course, but I would not say it is as evil as telling Alex to fuck off.

why would Alex be in compeition with him like that?

he's a player, not a powerful board member.
Yes true. He's a player today, but a symbol that's stood for the club for nearly two decades. Any role at the club, from herein will be a big one. Something AA perhaps is aware of and wants to avoid. I've got to agree with Rab here, I don't see Ale come back to the club once he's out.

This is the extreme paranoia, cynical version of events, of course.

Anyway, I'm going to have to go soon, XBL awaits.
How else would you explain such an odd timing of the events. October/November was it, at a shareholders' meeting where you have shitkoads of media gathered, leaving Del almost little or no room to change his mind. If this really meant something to AA, he would've said Alex has said that this is his last contract, and we are hoping we can change his mind to stay on. Instead he made everyone thank him for his contribution and that's that. You can call this cynicism or paranoia, but some things are glaringly evident because of how badly timed the announcement was, not to mention the context it was made in. I don't think any player, let alone a club icon would enjoy this treatment.

Heard Moggi spoke about it the other day, saying AA didn't announce it, but one of the shareholders asked about it.

But yeah, I agree with everything you said.
false, there's a video of him announcing it to them, and asking for everyone to applaud for Alex.

The only thing Ale said in his statements and interviews in regards of him staying is that he will evaluate everything at the right time. Like 1 or 2months before the end of the season. There was no confirmation from him or Stefano his brother that this will be his final season at Juve.

Im pretty sure that DP announced this to agnelli and co. in private..... The mistake agnelli did was to announce it publicly without DP´s consent. Why? because is very safe to assume that DP was thinking about this. When agnelli did this commnet, things were looking good, the enviroment in the franchise was good and we were discovering our good assets as a team. Not just DP, but anyone on their right mind would think "hey, maybe i can retire here after all, im enjoying this". But in that moment, Agnelli decieed to rush his comments.
I dont think that theres something ugly between the two, but definitely Agnelli wanted to see him out of the team or to resign in some way.
WHy? i dont know... because as some pointed, DP is not a negative unit in the squad... he is not an amauri, he doesnt bitch about not playing... he doesnt earn a lot of money like totti. He is loved by fans and sells shirsts.... and even serves as a charismatic figure in public and marketing events. On top of that, he is praised by media, fans and enemies alike.

The only way i can see Dp staying.... is by us inning the scudetto and agnellibacking off what he said. Or by a huge fan shitstorming.

I don't think it was a mistake as in Agneli didn't mean to let the secret out, but just to as someone pointed out earlier, make Del Piero keep his promise of his last season here.

Who is he to force Del Piero to keep a promise? Its up to Alex to decide how he feels with our results, form and his own game whennhe takes stock at the end of the season. After 19 seasons of providing nothing but net, you'd imagine hes earned at least that right.

The point is that the all discussion about what Agnelli meant, what Ale really wants and all that, doesn't really matters. The club shows no respect for Ale in the last few years, and nothing can't change this. He had to suffer time after time to get contract extension, they want him out and they gonna get it this summer. Even if Agnelli's intention was somehow good (Yeah... ), I didn't hear him say things like:"He announced he'll leave this summer, but we want him to stay", or "We'll always have place for him in this team, we hope he'll change his decision", and stuff like that. Things that you hear from United or Milan when their legends decide to leave. Legends who aren't bigger than Ale, on and off the field. But I guess you just have to get used to it. It's not Gianni's Juve anymore, it's Andrea's. :inter:

Just leave Ale. You don't deserve this shit.

Actually it's not up to Alex to decide, it's up to those who run the club. It would have been a nice and respectable gesture towards a clubs biggest legend, but it is what it is.

Milan? Really? Yeah, they treat their legends really good, just few days mister Maldini himself told that...

Don't know what Maldini says, but he retired after he played like shit and his last 2 years, and Galliani wanted him to stay more. And give a break, that's not a secret that Milan gives contract extension to veteran players, even when they're finished. So many jokes about that, I believe you've heard some of them.

P.S:

Even if Milan wasn't that kind of club, who gives a fuck. Our Capitano deserves the best treat that exist. United's, Milan's, who gives a fuck. And if that kinda treat doesn't exist, we should invent it for him, cause he's Alessandro Del Piero.

I don't know if you have noticed but this club is run by some unscrupulous mofos post calciopoli. Players don't get the same respect as they used to by this club.

Its the sad truth

Well yes that was the obvious reason, the reason why Nedved announced his retirement in the February of his final season. A lot of this discussion seems to be based on what people definitely think Del Piero/Agnelli would do.
People are confusing facts with opinions/possibilities. I think it's the first time this happened on the forum.

The Trez thing was extremely poor management, but that's the only example so far imo. One too many obviously, but it might be a bit early to come to an immediate conclusion.

Del Piero to win 3rd Golden and 1st ever Silver Star with Juve this season = I can die a happy man. That would be the most legendary departure of all time... come with success leave with even greater success.
