We got trashed. Conceded 5 goals. 23% ball possession. What's the explanation? What was the game plan?
This. I can't comprehend some of the decisions.

He was also late with subs. Guardiola smelled the blood and sent in Haaland right at the start of the second half. Tudor just sat there and started doing something when City was already 1-3 up.

His single mistake was not taking this one game seriously. A week ago everybody on this forum was yawning at the whole thing and now it's critical?

It was a major misstep but it's not enough to flush him down the toilet.
Totally and again, we have no idea about the fitness level of this team and how the long travelling has affected the players. It is a bad sign to loose like this, but lets wait with the judgments.
Anyway, even with the whole first eleven, we are probably loosing that game anyway, because its the defence that let us down.

There are a few things I just don’t get.
Why has Gatti been benched while Kelly and Savona start every game? Gatti is clearly a better center-back than both of them, what’s the reasoning behind that?
And why doesn’t Rugani get even a single minute, while Kelly and Savona keep starting every match no matter what? Why is McKennie a guaranteed starter every game? What does he actually bring to the table? And why is Douglas not getting any chances at all? Meanwhile, Koopmeiners, Vlahovic and Nico keep getting game time even though they’ve been absolutely awful. What’s the logic behind these decisions?

Is the knockout phase two games or one game? Because if it’s one game I maaaaybe understand the rotation considering our best players were yellow away form suspension.

It is what it is. I wanna see lessons learned and focused on getting better. Defeats serve for one to learn and get up again. I don’t mind us getting 5 goals tbh but if we give our best and simply give our all in the field. Not like Koop the silent passenger.

I think you are confusing the difference between a friendly pre season tournament that not only pays considerably less but also doesn’t have even half of the visibility and media coverage compared to an actual official FIFA tournament that is being watched for free on the whole globe(marketing opportunity for teams too) and already pays better for lesser games against easier opponents than what our usual financial lifeline which is the UCL has to offer.

Just wanted to point out why your assumption of it being a summer friendly is not accurate, other than that to each their own i guess.
Honest question: does it get a lot of media coverage?
It sure doesn't, in my neck of the woods.
Case in point: a friend of mine, who's really into football, asked me the following question last Saturday. "Did you know there's a CWC going on right now?" Followed by: "Which teams are playing in it?"

The being watched for free is a good point. There's a reason why you're able to watch it for free: no one is willing to pay for it.
Remember when FIFA was going to sell the tv rights for 4 billion €? I think at one point Apple were supposedly going to buy them. They ended up selling them for 25% of that. And now DAZN has to show the games for free, hoping to attract paying customers for the future.

FIFA was also going to attract a lot of additional sponsors for big bucks for this tournament. End result: no new sponsors.

Ticket sales have been a disaster as well, unsurprisingly.

So, from where I'm standing, no one gives a shit about this tournament. But that could obviously be different in other parts of the world.

Group stage matches vs weak unknown teams have never generated much interest, even in the case of national teams at WC’s and Euro’s there are several games that only garner audiences from the countries involved in that game, same applies for low tier european teams when they play in the UCL and EL group phase where mostly only the fans of the teams playing there are actually showing interest, with mainly only the balanced games that are featuring two good/popular teams/NT’s getting more media and neutral fans attention, then there’s the knockout stages which features more quality and generates interest all around with most weak teams getting filtered out, and what most here are annoyed about is why we didn’t give it our all to go in this one game that we only needed a draw in to secure an favorable path towards advancing as far as possible in this KO phase which could have generated us in a few weeks almost as much revenue that we’d get from a full season of playing in UCL and reaching the QF’s…

Once again, i’m not sure what the point of this debate even is, this is clearly not a preseason friendly tournament based on format and prize money alone if nothing else, nevermind the lack of media coverage ‘in your side of the woods’, the whole argument was that most teams are taking it serious because there’s a lot of financial incentives that give it a competitive edge, therefore going far would have helped us not only financially but also in popularity because it will get more coverage once the KO phase kicks in.

We'll get smashed by Real, expecting 5 goals from Real too
Naah with Gatti Kalulu and hopefully Rugani and Yildiz, Chico and Kolo upfront with Thuram and Loca we are another team. I choose to believe he was saving them for the knock out because all of them were yellow away from suspension.

I don’t think Real will have it that easy with us, let’s see if Tudor learnt something he seems smart enough.

I have to admit: I didn't expect the CWC to be this entertaining.

I mean, I haven't seen a single second of it, but I am enjoying how people are getting worked up because of meaningless post-season friendlies. Games where we (have to) field players who aren't supposed to be here 2 months from now.
careful they get mad when you interrupt the meltdown

I was and still am very much against giving Tudor the full time gig (Much much preferred more proven coach).

Majority of the forum was for giving him the job, and amusingly enough several of those who were weeks ago arguing against me not being ok with getting the job, are now vehemently anti Tudor, 3 games in :boh::haha:

I think if you put it in South America fans would probably fill the stadiums, but not anywhere else. Then again, they'd probably kill each other over CWC games, so that's not saying much.

Because of the financial implications it's positive that we are part of it, but there's little else. It'll affect the pre-season of many players and cause injuries and fitness issues going into next season. It's not like a summer tournament where you might have 8-10 players or whatever who can be eased back into the new season, the whole squad is part of this.

Only reason was he has a JJ past which should hardly be any criteria for hiring a manager. Not like he was a great player either.

His coaching career is a huge red flag. He wouldn't get an opportunity at any other top/semi-top team.

All those people thinking he'll magically transform into a top manager just because he's at JJ now is pure coping.

Is this what people were hoping for? Imo most people were willing to renew him simply because there were no good managers available, and no one wanted to blow money on the likes of Pioli etc.
