I actually took some time to seriously think about this (Roma-Lazio was too boring) 
Here is my answer:
I was in my late teens when I started following Juve. It was a mixture of attraction and glory hunting. Just to picture you how easy it was to be attracted to that Juventus hear the names of Zidane, Del Piero, Jugovic, Vieri. Juve were the CL holders and the year I started following them was the year when Juve won the super cup by scoring 10 goals to PSG, when Juve beat Milan 6:1 at San Siro, when Juve beat Manchester United home and away in CL, when Juve won the semifinal against a very strong Ajax 6:2 on aggregate. That was the Juve of Zidane, Del Piero and Jugovic at full power.
Slowly but surely the attraction became love and the time came when choosing a team to follow wasn't even an option. I couldn't just say "now i'll support team X". My choice was made without even knowing when and how.
Now to answer your question.
It was 1996 when I started following Juve. If it wasn't Juve then it'd have probably been another serie A team. The Italian league was by far the most covered and followed league. Everyone here watched serie A and supported a serie A team.
Logically, back in those days it'd have been one of Milan or Inter. Milan were very famous, still very strong, they just bought Roberto Baggio and the Croatian legend and most loved player, Boban, played there.
Inter bought Ronaldo in 1997 and Ronaldo was the kind of player who could win over the teenagers.
So, if it was an Italian team it was gonna be one of those two.
The third option was Real Madrid. They bought Suker in 1996 and started creating a top team (Mijatovic, Seedorf, Redondo, Roberto Carlos). Suker was my favorite player so I could have easily chosen Real if it wasn't Juve.
Now, thinking of these last 13 years I see Juve losing 3 CL finals, I see a last round scudetto defeat in Perugia, I see Calciopoli, serie B, two revoked scudetti and lots of post-Calciopoli disappointments.
If I chose Milan i'd have celebrated 2 CLs. If I chose Real i'd have celebrated many La Liga trophies, 3 Champion league trophies and now i'd have been excited about the team with CR and Kaka.
Still, if I can talk to the 17 yo Alen i'll tell him that he made the right choice.
