French is indeed more difficult. But you can use it in countries like Belgium, Switzerland and Canada, thats a whole lot better than being able to use a language in south/central american countries.

It really just depends on where you plan to spend your time. If you're living in the US then Spanish seems a lot more useful. In Europe they are equally useful.
