Serious question: which language after English do you think a guy like me should learn?
I think that's the wrong question. When people study a language they "should" learn they usually give up because they're not motivated enough.

Find one you really want to learn and you'll succeed.

But you wholeheartedly reject it without knowing Arabic, Martin!!
That was then. I'm not interested in those debates anymore.

french is more difficult and less spoken, unless you want to work in africa
French is indeed more difficult. But you can use it in countries like Belgium, Switzerland and Canada, thats a whole lot better than being able to use a language in south/central american countries.

except theres more chances of people speaking english in those countries than the rest. french is dead.
There are a lot of "older" people speaking French as a second language though.

Also, Martin's words are very true:

so? spanish is by far more useful both in its proximity to portuguese and italian and the number of people who speak it

martin is right if the intent is fluency, but if you take up classes for a year you will defo get enough to communicate.

It really just depends on where you plan to spend your time. If you're living in the US then Spanish seems a lot more useful. In Europe they are equally useful.
