Well I'll tell you my story, I was smoking regulary from 7th grade and all the way till the end of the high school so that's 6 straight years. In my high school days I was mostly active in football. I never trained with a club and such, too lazy for that, but we used to play for over 3,4 straight hours daily and that happened few times a week. It was a lot of football back in high school days and never once did I have problems because of smoking, when I think about it most of the guys I played with smoked, some were even playing for local clubs. Point is everyone could play for hours, no one had problems with condition.

Smoking will take a little condition off you but it won't cut off your legs, if you play football regulary smoking won't be too much of a problem. All of that if you're a casual player, not a pro of course.

But if you stop playing playing for a year and then go out there you'll be dead in 10 minutes, smoker or non-smoker and I suppose that's what you did. :D Don't worry I did the same recently, after like 8 months we went out for a game, man I wasn't able to walk for 4 days.

i play football semi-regularly and i smoke, doesn't harm that much. I know a lot of people who smoke and play regularly for football teams and basketball teams.

And i heard somewhere that many italian professional players smoke. And i always remember from the past that the players smoked. I remember i saw a documentary where it said that Di Stefano was a smoker and so was Meazza

Robert Prosinecki, at his peak one of the best midfielders in the world, was known to smoke up to 3 packs a day. And that's a fact.

Come on... who was Robert Prosinecki ???:D

Just kiddin:)

Actually ifI remember correctly Giuseppe Meazza used to smoke:) and you all know how good he was;)

At early years many smoked... and football wasn't primary proffession for most...

If anyone wants to achieve today's physical standards then NO SMOKING:)

How can you run along for whole match along players like Camoranesi, Carlos, etc...

thats def one of the factors vlatko, ever since i started uni i stopped playing football regularly so thats another reason to why i get what i get when i play for five mins. i do agree with u thou it isnt only smoking its also how often u play. i miss playing football the time. i blame it on uni!!

I went to watch my local team beat the heck out of a non-league team in the cup on Friday. Afterwards, a couple of friends and I took on some random local kids in a match on the pitch (great surface, if you don't get kicked off too fast, but the stewards know us). I scored a great 20 yard volley into the top corner :extatic:, but then tore my jeans stretching for a ball a few minutes later. I had to bin them as soon as I got home. :(
Good memories - I'd forgotten about this. :)
