I started playing football for my school when I was about 7 and a year later I played U12 football for a club team. At that time I was like the youngest guy in the team so the coach just stuck me at right back. My best memory that year was scoring the winning penalty in a semi-final shootout. We won the final and went on to do so the next two years as well, which were my last U12 seasons. My last one was particularly enjoyable as I finished with the second most goals in the tournament playing at right wing. I scored the winners in the semi and the final (which was in golden goal extra time). I won the best midfielder award, and did so again that same year in a different cup.
I captained the team in my fourth and fifth seasons, but we failed to win any championships. The club had become alot more disorganised and indisciplined with players getting sent off and banned left, right and centre. I was left with a decision, would I stay and try to battle through, help the club get back to where it formerly was, or would I leave and join or main rivals who had enjoyed alot of success as of late. It was one of the hardest things I ever did. I knew that people of that club would say that I only joined because my club weren't winning at the time. I knew that I'd feel like a traitor for leaving. But, you guessed right, I left.
I was sad then, but now I'm happy with the decision. The club that I'm at now work so much harder at practise and are so much more organised. They go on tours every other year, and have some of the best coaches in the island (though the guy that coached me at my old club was the national team boss), plus, it's closer to home and I have alot more friends there. I was asked to go on tour with them this summer which I thought was very unfair since I had just joined them and some of the guys who were at the club for a while weren't going. They went to Florida. In 2002 they went to England and visited Old Trafford. I didn't go to Florida with them though. Instead I played cricket for my school team. Hopefully I'll go away with them in 2006.
