Oh right, so the eastern ones are on the North America/Pacific plate fault line, and the western ones on the Eurasian/North American plate fault line?
Here's a map of the region. I assume the dotted line that extends west of Japan is a minor fault between plates. The more recent quakes are associated with that one.

Latest Japanese reports suggest a town of 33,000 people has been completely destroyed, as well as a university campus, schools etc. It just gets worse and worse. Other cities up to 74,000 population have been badly submerged.

Next thing we'll be hearing that a giant fire breathing lizard has emerged from the ocean and is rampaging through downtown Tokyo.

It's fucking pathetic how US stocks managed to have a green day today, with all the devastation in Asia and uprisings in Africa and the Middle East. Nobody is buying stocks when a possible nuclear reactor is about to blow. Just goes to show what a joke this whole game is, a bunch of fucking high frequency trading algorithms making an entire market.

Ecuador's PM has declared a state of emergency for coastal areas. It's heading for the Galapagos, home to many endangered species of animals. Mexico and the US is also experiencing some lesser problems.

Japanese PM has told the people living near the nuclear plant to evacuate! They are being told to get at least 6 miles from the plant! The radiation levels are 8 times above normal.

Ecuador might be worse off than the US considering the trajectory of the Tsunami in relation to the main impulse of the quake.
