Started back in the gym this month, just trying to get fit at the moment, not worried about bulking up just yet.

Running 5K in 28 minutes but trying to get down below 25 minutes before end of Feb.

Not sure what constitutes a good time, guess it comes down to age, weight etc?

A good time for a male is below 20 minutes. 15 minutes is elite level.

Try doing interval training if you wanna be serious about a good time. It does wonders. @JCK might be more helpful in that regard.

http://us.myprotein.com/sports-nutrition/impact-whey-protein/10852500.html

I use this and it's used in all the flavors. Sure, could be more protein, but I like the fact that there are minimal ingredients, it's cheap, and tastes amazing. They got rid of stracciatella though, that was the best tasting protein flavor I've ever had in my life :sigh:
Fair enough. I ate isolate protein for 2 years and it was disgusting. Sure, you can add flavor like that, totally fine.

When buying protein, its extremely important that you check the regulations.

In Belgium and Holland, we got NUT-numbers (=notification numbers)

Food supplements that have applied and received this number, have to apply at the laws concerting them.
this basically means, they can only deviate 5% from whats listed on the label

Since its a legal thing : @Seven is this a Benelux thing or do other countries have this aswel ?

Gold standard whey can easily deviate 20% from the label. cheap when without a NUT usually has 45-50% protein instead of advertised 80-85%

I don't really know about the supplement market. In general everything that is labeled in the EU goes through testing. If you label something as 80% cacao for example and it contains only 10, you could face penalties. Obviously there's always a margin though.

I'm not familiar with the American market, but it seems less strict tbh, at least in terms of advertising.

Margin on NUT-numbers is 5%. So you know you get quality.

American market is horrible tbh

Running intervals is the only effective way to become faster especialy for short distances like 5K
Sound advice guys, much appreciated .

Will give it a go today

Get ready for a solid puke session. At least I spilt my breakfast (coffee) all over the pavement, when i first started running intervals :D

But when your stomach is empty, you're good to go again :p

Haven't run a 5k in a while now, but I agree, if you're under 20 minutes that's okay.

I much prefer sprint training or as @Nzoric mentioned 3-4 k's. That's a distance you can run slightly faster and to me faster is always more fun.

Tried it this evening, down to 25 minutes from 27. Definitely felt a bit dizzy afterwards alright

Need to remind myself that I only started back running 3 weeks ago and nit to push things too much

The most important thing, when one starts running progress is noticeable in the beginning and one tends to want more bringing injuries along the way. Take it easy, feel comfortable with the distance and pace first then do your increments gradually.

The American market of anything will always be horrible compared to what you have, but it's a British company so I was hoping that would help a bit.
Oh they are cool. And very cheap in quantities. I order my rolled oats and maltodextrine in 5kg bags from there.

And i'll order their 2500 IU vitamine D softgells soon. I'm not happy about the 5000iu hardcaps from Bulkpowers

I'm shit at running and was more out of shape at the time but after a few weeks I could do 22. Pacing myself was always the problem.

I don't do any kind of timed distances now. Doing a lot of HIIT and sprints, I was always pretty fast so it's actually enjoyable.

Gym is a bit quieter now, whoopie.

I've always used MyProtein (I'm British), never had an problems with any of their products. I've used the impact whey protein for 2 years, but also things like Thermo Extreme, ZMA, other supplements as well. The choice of protein flavours is ridiculous tbh. They tend to be good quality and are always well reviewed across the board. The Hut Group owns them and they are a decent sized chain here so you know it's not shit that goes into them.

How can I get big muscles when I'm ectomorph? I got those cardio muscles and not those muscles that girls like :(
Same as everybody else, training hard. I see a few guys in my gym who are clearly ectomorphs, but they've trained for at least a couple of years and in some ways the muscles are more pronounced like around the shoulders and biceps, looking pretty rounded compared to more stocky guys such as myself.

Oh, and you can surely get away with eating more surplus than somebody like myself. The good stuff, I mean.
