Guess your ideas of big is different. Seen a lot of guys I know get big pretty quickly - big in a way I don't want to get.
it's not defensive it's calling out BS it's like saying i dont want to do melanie iglesias, as if you would ever get the chance

:agree:

It's quite funny. I rarely 'lift' with 'Beach Boys' like myself. The late night group (post 8 pm) that I work out with are mostly big dudes, they are often the most helpful + they appreciate and acknowledge the effort I put in despite not going for size or extreme strength but rather explosiveness and a toned body (ryan reynolds-style).

There's mos def a point in many of the local 'beach boys' being some arrogant dicks more interested in their mirror image than creating a good atmosphere in the gym and helping out the n00bs. dont laugh just give advice. big dudes got the biggest hearts

So when I laugh at the 'gorillas' its merely banter and not an ignorant without the respect of what it takes to become big. the big guys at my gym calls me "little shitter" despite being 6'1 and 172 pounds. good fun.

i was working out my abs and after a good burn i lifted my shirt for half a second to check out the look of them and some fat dude was looking at me and shaking his head, so i just walked up, looked him dead in teh eye and went "you got something to say" of course he said "no" but i was really hoping he would say something, in spite of the good atmosphere and niceties, theres a hierarchy in the gym and if you wanna play badass you better be one

I ain't talking bout Zach's alleged defensiveness

The big you talk about may be unattainable to the more casual gymmer, but I'm saying there's level I've seen regular non-hardcore guys get that I don't want to.

Hierarchy, oh yes. People in a gym, especially new, shouldnt start to immediatly express annoyance, but rather find out wether something is customary, or attentionwhoring.
Someone trying to go for definition and symmetry, has to take a look after an excercise at the target area in pump. Its what all bodybuilders do.
If its a guy making shitload of uneccecary noise, is posing in the middle, and is seeking eye contact. yeah, thats a douchebag.

I'm having this simular thing when doing deadlifts. i have 6 warmup sets and 3*3 worksets of a decent weight. When hitting the floor after each rep, that will make noice, when i'm putting it down at the third rep, its definatly making noise. Beeing 1m91 and not dat flexible has disadvantages, most people realise and dont say anything. or jokingly ask 'is that your warmup'
some are annoyed and give me a look, i dont react to it. Its not like i'm trowing a 20kg barbell down to the floor after a bicep curl.

I rarely use my posture. Unless some douchebag cunt is trying to unload my weights despite my towel beeing on the bar, or trying to squat himself, also with my towel beeing on the bar. I give those a rather direct remark i'm working with that.

dude i completely feel you hence the talk of hierarchy, i had this 90 lbs lady telling me that i am throwing her concentration off with my dropping the 90lbs dumbbells, she had a 5 lbs one in her hand :fero:

yeah another good example.
when doing incline presses with those, or actually any excercise considering dat weight, dropping them(not trowing), is actually a good way not to get injured.
I once got the exact same thing, when i made "to much noice" back in december when trying 3x3 bench. A guy complained my gf who was spotting, trew the weight "to hard" back into the holder after the rep was finished.

i told him to fuck off and try do the same weight a few times and see how the rotator cuff will react to it. I've had enough goddamn injuries on that muscle

and straight bench is actually even harder on the rotator with dumbbells, i dont know any other way of putting them down. Thats why i like to go late

Wel, thats a good question right there.

Its because people who crave to become bigger and more muscular, or stronger(like me) know the crazy amount of work you have to put into it, each day. getting big is very hard without illegal stuff.
When people then say "i dont want to become big" we are like "oh man, you seriously have no idea of what efford its taking us"

its like driving a city car, and saying you dont want to hit 300 mph.

I dont want to come over as defensive. I have respect for every kind of sport, and hopes everyone can find joy in what he does.

My best friend tries to combine gym with running long distance and sprinting to become "all-rounded". i have as much respect for him as for the guy on insane diet trying to hit 3% fat whilst having 110 kg bodyweight
I am in no way "big", but I also find it annoying when people say things like that too. Especially women saying they don't want to work chest or arms because they don't want to get "big." I just facepalm.

Also I have a question. Normally after a workout I buy this drink of 50 grams of protein. Would it be significantly detrimental to building muscle if I were to skip it for a day?
