I started off with probably even lighter, so no worries :D

My bench is the weakest spot for me, really bad over there. It's not like I'm beast on other exercises, but just better :D

Like my rows are 84kg, pull ups with 25kg, dips with 38kg

Can't say, never tried those machines.

Today I did squats with 104kg.

Also 80kg bench for the first time, which is still pussy.
 Only upto 70KG myself right now

Finding it hard to find a good balance right now. I'm trying to bulk up, which is difficult because I have a fairly fast metabolism, but at the same time I'm still trying to lose some excess fat from my stomach area. At present I'm only doing about 10 minutes cardio as a warm up, then 50 minutes weights finishing up with 25 minutes core and abs. Maybe I'm just being impatient, but would it be a good idea to up the cardio for a month or so just to lose the fat and then bring it back to just a warm up run once this has been lost?

Its kind of a catch 22 situation Im dealing with here.

Also, whats your opinion on the smith machine Dule?

Eh, I think you're going in the wrong direction. If you're trying to bulk up right now, you'll have to continue and deal with the excess fat in the stomach area. You should think what you want better, because if you decide to cut down there's a chance you will lose some strength as well. If it's not that bad I'd probably suggest cutting easly for the summer and then getting into slow bulking (not too many calories added at once). But you should really decide what you want first. If you want bulk you just have to deal with that extra fat.

I'm not a fan of any machines. That question is better to ask Deneb or Zach because I'm not even in the gym, I just own some weights myself. So I can't say I'm an expert but I definitely recommend free weights over any type of machines. The one I like the most is leg press, though.

Cheers Dule, top answer, I kind of thought that I'd just have to deal with the excess fat as a consequence alright. Abs would be nice obviously but I know it'll be tough considering that I'm trying to put on mass, which is more important to me right now. I'll definitely take that advice on board, continue with the high calorie intake and when the summer comes I'll start cutting.

Im using the smith machine now to get my technique right, but when I feel I'm sufficiently strong enough I'll tackle the bench press in time.

Btw, don't bulk for like 1-2 months. IMO it has to be at least 3-4.

As for abs, it's just not worth it. Getting lower than 10% is very hard, plus even then abs are not visible (for majority) unless you flex, which is not something you're going to do at the beach. Having a flat stomach is just enough IMO, while you also look a bit bigger. It's always great when a t-shirt hugs your arms ;)

I'm just over two and a half months into my bulking up stage and I've managed to put on about 4 pounds in that time. I'm definitely noticing a big difference, not just in terms of strength but definition as well. My work t-shirts are proof of that as they're starting to feel tighter all around, especially around the chest and arms :p The protruding veins on my forearms are a nice bonus as well.

A flat stomach would most certainly be enough considering the state of my belly three months ago

Smith machine is something you use when you injured some position muscle
Allways use a barbell, because like that you'll train everything. If an excercise can be done with the barbell, its allways the best choise.

As for bulking and cutting fat, that doesnt work sadly.

Usually you would look to bulk up for several months, higher fat% makes bigger strenght and faster proces, and then you cut it down to the weight you're satisfied with.

250 lbs in leg presses, is that impressive? :p
if its a new personal max for you it is.

Can't say, never tried those machines.

actually its the other way around

bench-squat-deadlift should ideally be on a 1 - 1.5 - 2 ratio

Benching 80 should result in squatting 120.

But fuck that, nice results ! you seemb to be making good progress

Not really, but you've got to start somewhere. If you're looking to do legs, I'd recommend hitting the squat rack first. Build up the quads.

Thanks :toast: I'm pretty sure I can handle more weights on squats, though. I'm just increasing slowly, 2kg per session.

They have gotten bigger, compared to last year they are huge now so I'm satisfied :D

That's impressive. I have back pain and I barely lift much when squatting.
I was proud of myself when I did it :D because that 100kg was always a big number for me, for any exercise.

That really sucks. I think people who have back pain can do belt squats, it doesn't put pressure on your lower back so you should try it out.

If I train for 3 days a week, what are the most logical muscle group pairings? Currently I'm doing back+shoulders on monday, chest+triceps on wednesday and legs + biceps on friday, always finishing up with abs and doing some light cardio before and after the training. Still a newbie in gym, been training for 2,5 months now (and a few months here and there in the past, but nothing serious). The goal is to bulk up a bit (5-6 kilos).
