I'm pretty sure the point of his post was to show that Higuain has done really well here, which he has. Not that being higher on the list means that you are a better player.

You're better than this Mike, you usually post very objectively. Letting emotions getting the better of you here ;)
Problem is no one follows other sports so they don't know how relative value and performance works.

They use stats to show he scored a lot of goals, compared with Platini and Sivori. I use stats to show he scored less than Quagliarella in the league last year and it doesn't count. Ok.

Strikers will score goals. More chances. More goals. All that matters is how many goals you would score MORE than the next option.

He's gonna kill it next season
This just shows a stunning lack of professionalism from him the last 2 summers, to show up as out of shape and overweight as he did.

I agree with you that he was better than many give him credit for, but I find it quite frustrating that he let himself go like he did each of the last two summers. Imagine what he could have done here being lighter and in shape, and thereby quicker and more agile. He might have scored 60+ goals, had an easy time shaking defenders with quick movements, not looked so gassed for the last month of each season.

That's frustrating to me.

Why are we selling Higuain? Why can’t we keep him? Would Real Madrid sell Higuain or Benzema if they bought Cristiano Ronaldo? Would United sell Lukaku if they got CR?

Ronaldo is not going to play all games. He’s going for 34. Is Mandzukic (over 30) enough for a club like Juve to be a back up striker? I love Mandzu but he doesn’t score nearly as much as Higuain. Mandzu is still clutch as fuck and works his off, so I’d want to keep him also.

Anyone else thinks we should keep him? If anything happens to Ronaldo, and when he doesn’t play to rest, we’ll be left with Dybala and Mandzukic and lots of wingers.

Selling Higuain could cost us the Serie A or the Champions League. When Ronaldo won’t be playing, Higuain would be perfect.

And hell, I’d love to see Ronaldo, Higuain and Dybala all playing together. We would need to leave out a winger but maybe it’s worth it.

You do bring up an interesting point. How will we line up without Ronaldo playing? Mandzukic up front in 90% of cases I assume, with Dybala instead every now and then? We have a lot of tactical flexibility up front now.

Because Ronaldo is one 60m wages and 30m amortisation per year so we have to balance the books to not get in problems with ffp.

You can't pay that much money to a bench player when his impact will be marginal compared to another bench striker. Not including opportunity cost of the money you'd receive for his sale.

You are talking about paying an exorbitant amount of money so Higuain can come off the bench and score 8-10 goals when Mandzukic could do the same and score 6-8 goals in a similar role.

But some people will agree with you because they can't understand how performance should be evaluated relative to others. And the degree to which you should spend money to upgrade from one player to another and whether it's worth it or not.
