Its hard to define who a diver is and whose not(unless its a clear case ala Drogba and Cristiano), and we could debate all day about it and not get anywhere, because theres no way for someone to prove the other wrong, but my impression about Torres is that he does tend to fall to ground on the slightest contact at times, and he does try to con the referee and make a meal out of challenges ala your typical Spanish player.
You know who used to dive a lot more than Torres? Henry. You cannot admire Henry and talk bad about Torres because supposedly he dives. Like you say, it's very difficult to tell and I've seen some very harsh tackles on Torres.

Torres needs to take a couple of months to work on his body though. Getting this many injuries is not normal.

I admire Henry for what he did at Arsenal, not for his moral qualities. He could be a cheater, a diver and an arrogant thug, but he's still an Arsenal legend and someone who always remembers Arsenal fans and speaks well of the club.

He's way overworked. Rafa treated him like a pack mule this season. If anyone needs a beer and a lay down it's Fernando Torres.

Like when Torres played against Madrid with a bum ankle and had to withstand some of the worst treatment from defending players I've seen. Not once did he go to ground without being fouled.

Ok, instead of talking about it in various threads, we can concentrate the ballon do'or talks in this thread.
The way FIFA blatantly supports Bartha is disgusting.
Xavi, Messi and Iniesta in the 3 men shortlist for player of the year.

Who would you have in there instead?

Xavi and Messi are completely justified I suppose, perhaps not Iniesta though. He'd definitely come in third between the three despite being a cracking player. Maybe Sneijder in there instead?

I agree. Out of the three, Xavi deserves it more as he was most consistent throughout the season in La Liga & the WC.

In what way did Iniesta have a better season than say....all the players from Inter?
In what way did he have a better season than Ronaldo? Is the world cup the only football that was played in 2010?
And if Messi is justified then so is Ronaldo. Apart from the bad WC both of them had, they had brilliant January-May and September-December.

Iniesta won the World Cup, so that's a start. But apart from Sneijder at Inter I'd say that the only other candidate would be Milito or maybe Zanetti for his service, but that's stretching it.

Oh, and why is there a 3 men shortlist at all? FIFA picked ~20 candidates (which was also a farce because it didn't include Milito) and they should have let the coaches and captains of the NT's vote for whoever they wanted out of those 20, instead of making it a 3 men shortlist.

Until last year France football gave the ballon d'or letting journalists vote. FIFA let the coaches and captains give from 1 to 5 points to the 5 players they thought did best.
This year there is a silly 3 men shortlist. Why?
This became an idiotic prize. I think that some respected newspaper should start their own award ala France football.

so let me get this straight, none of the treble winning inter team get in the shortlist?

snejider who just won the treble and finishes top scorer along side forlan in the world cup, gets ignored?

these should have been the three imo

Forlan
Sneijder
Milito / Messi

Forlan and Sneijder where critical for both club and country last year, I would say milito but he didnt do it at the world cup, but neither did messi.

Having Forlan in there but not Xavi is a bit strange. I'd say that's even less sensical than FIFA's shortlist.

Sneijder should definitely be in there though.

It should've been Xavi, Messi and Sneijder. Iniesta doesn't deserve to be in the final 3 runners, IMO. The prize, of course, should've been between Xavi and Sneijder.

I hope Xavi gets it.

If Sneijder was included then it was gonna be a victory for the ugly non-football Inter and Holland played.
That must not be allowed and only the attacking football Barca plays should be promoted.

FIFA is now telling teams how to play football.

Even if Sneijder was WC top scorer or Messi is now on 40+ goals or whatever, no one in this world has been as consistent as Xavi.

If he doesn't win it then there's absolutely bunch of idiots behind this prize.

Xavi may not be as spectacular to some as Messi but Messi and the likes don't have his brain and his consistent.

The man is always playing too well be it Europe, domestic, or WC.

So just cuz Iniesta scored the goal in the final he should be in the top 3? I guess they should have given the prize to Grosso in 2006, dude was clutch through out the playoffs for Italy.

I think this will indeed be the main reason why Iniesta will take it, not saying he deserves it more then Messi, Xavi or Sneijder who, rediculous as it is, isn't in the top 3.
