I wonder......

If Del Piero spends the next year injured and scores only 1 goal, would those of you who want Trez out want us to give Villareal 15m eur+Del Piero for Rossi?

Trez is now 31 (close to 32), Del Piero will be 35 next year (close to 36).

Suns? Osman? Juve Rev?
I have zero doubt that the answer would be a big no. Sorry, but Del Piero isnt above the club, but he is head and shoulders above all of the other players without any doubt (not even close), special sentiments for quite possibly our the biggiest player in our history.

I would ask for us to sign Rossi while keeping Ale at the same time, he can be on the bench as a super sub if he isnt good enough anymore, retire at the club as he is destined to. Only way I would accept him leaving (with a insanely heavy heart) is he himself wanted to slow down with a little adventure elsewhere in last year. But knowing him, he has made it perfectly clear he would want to be around for quite a while longer (allways some buzz about him leaving now and then come contract talk, and it allways ends up with him taking yet another paycut), and retire here, I will personally for sure be at his last game (or games), will be a sad but very special day.

Hey, i never took a side.
I only asked you if you'd say the same if it was Del Piero.

I guess you won't be nostalgic either and you'd be pro selling Ale+cash for Rossi.
No, as I see it Del Piero is our captain, doesn't want to leave and he doesn't whine when he is on the bench.

But look, we got something good going on here with us signing Diego and maby Rossi. Let's keep it up.

Now just imagine someone feeling equally strong about Trez and there you have it. Btw with Ale being as you say possibly the biggest player in our history, Trez with 20 more goals would be the 2nd most goalscoring, after Ale. So that's not small potatoes.

I love this double standard btw. "Oh stop being so sentimental." "What about you?" "Hush."

Aha.
So lets say that some guys here love and respect the club legend that is Trez, just as much as they love and respect the club legend that is Del Piero and they see both of them just as big. Just like they see Buffon or saw Nedved.

You just told us what your reaction would be if it's Del Piero+cash for Rossi.
Do you think it's smart to convince members who see Trez just as big as Del Piero and also see this as a big NO, that we should sell Trez+15m eur for Rossi?

Anyway, the main question here is if Trez wants to leave and why does he wanna leave.
If he thinks that it's time to move on and have new experience then i have absolutely no objections to sell him. BUT i'd like us to get in return the same value that he has. And Trez is not worth 5 fucking millions.
Half of De Ceglie is worth 5 fucking millions.

Count the minutes. He played a total of 692 minutes (7 full matches + 62 minutes). 1 goal and 2 assists. And have in mind that he came after serious injury and he needed time to get back on form.

Amauri, Del Piero....they both had episodes of +600 minutes played without scoring a goal.

Martin: No its not small potatoes (though clear clift of difference between him and Ale in terms of what they mean for this club), and if Trez wanted to stay, would accept the bench as a possible situation now and then I would be perfectly fine with him staying.

But that hasnt been the case, I dont think the club would put on the market if he wasnt eager to leave for other opportunities, but was instead adamant to stay (I dont fault him for looking for options elsewhere at all, and the club factors into it too but too many summers he has talked about wanting to leave).

If Trez stays great,if Rossi comes great it is a win win situation. There is no doubting that Trez is in the top 5 natural goalscorers in the game at the moment and there hard to come by these days.

I dig Trez, but there is no way he is as a big as Ale for this club.

But yeah I defenitely understand having as your big favourite player (he shares 2nd for me with Gigi). And I havent tried to convince to anyone that we should sell Trezeguet, even if I prefer we start getting players for the long term, the only reason I come to terms with Trez leaving is that he wants to go and we have put him on the market. That has been the reality, if it was no possibility of him leaving, that he wants to stay, is off the market, then I would defenitely view it in a different way, I would sell Iaquinta 2 times over way before him. But just being realistic, our 3 other attackers are defenite stays, and if Trez is leaving, which clearly has been in motion for months, then I rather we do so while getting an immense youngster, then sell him elsewhere cheaply.

It's simple, really. Trez is a bit of a misfit. Even though the club means a ton to him, he doesn't always feel indivisible from it. So his scummy agent (no doubt) will bring it up every summer, precisely what Trez is thinking in the back of his mind. Hey maybe move to another club. And if he had I wouldn't be saying this. But 9 seasons, man! I remember when we were at this stage with DP and we were convinced he'd retire here. After 9 seasons of his prime Trez is just as much the fabric of the club to me as DP is.

Not only that, he's also one of the few links with our former greatness, and that's precious to me. We used to be a great team, then Calciopoli hit, and now we're still rebuilding. Meanwhile we have a couple of players who are still with us from back then, and I think all of them are in a very special position because of that, I don't want them to leave just like any other player would. Not because they played in B, but because they were there, under Capello, under Lippi.

And if you really want to compare Trez and DP so bad, let's remember that Trez was not pointed out as Baggio's heir. He was not given special attention by L'Avvocato. He was not singled out by the fans as the new bandiera. He didn't even receive a contract on the scale of DP for a number of years (despite scoring right and left), which is precisely what some of those transfer rumors were about. The special attention DP received early in his career is pretty damn unique, and don't you think that has something to do with his undying commitment?

Btw, stricktly looking at the numbers, there is no improvement for Rossi (as a goalscorer) in the last 3 years.

League:
2006/2007 - Parma, 19 matches/ 9 goals (0.47 goals per match)
2007/2008 - Villareal 27 matches/ 11 goals (0.41 goals per match)
2008/2009 - Villareal 30 matches/ 12 goals (0.40 goals per match)

Overall:
2006/2007 - Parma, 20 matches/ 9 goals (0.45 goals per match)
2007/2008 - Villareal 37 matches/ 13 goals (0.35 goals per match)
2008/2009 - Villareal 39 matches/ 15 goals (0.38 goals per match)

Bah, nevermind the stats. Trezeguet +15m eur is simply too much. Unacceptable.

wow i never realised that before. He could easily do that if he stayed with us imo and i would love to see that happen. I really want Trez to stay, some of the figures that have been quoted as his transfer fee are insane :(. I would love Rossi here too but if its at the expense of Trez then its a big no from me. Rossi last year instead of Amauri would of been great. Our strikers have been fine this last two years and never needed reinforced in the first place.

Rossi to Juve is probably not a good idea for next season. In terms of improving our starting 11, I believe we would be much stronger if 25m (Trez + 15) went towards 2 quality fullbacks.

Still, it would be great to secure 1 of Italy's top talents, and if we pass on him now it will be much tougher to sign him in the future.

I completely agree. Along with the Trez factor the things you mentioned would make it hard for me to agree with the deal.
