I'm concerned that he hasn't started already. I'd love to know his plans for when Barzagli, Buffon, Pirlo and probably Vidal aren't in the team any more.

We are relatively stacked in the CB department, and most of them are relatively young. True, no one can really replace Barzagli, but then again there are not many who can.

In midfield we have shown that we can produce even without Pirlo. A bigger problem will occur if Vidal or Pogba are sold, but in that event I expect a high enough transfer fee to afford adequate replacements.

As for the forwards, we recently brought in Morata, and got plenty young prospect out on loan. There is of course no guarantee that any of these will actually become a Juve-level forward, and I agree that this department will need work in the foreseeable future, but the fact we haven't really got any replacements we can count on yet is not something particuarly worrying, Tevez and Llorente both still have two good years in them.

That leaves goalkeeper, and you defenitely right here. On the other hand, it wouldn't make sense to bring in any worldclass keeper when Buffon is still around, and we do try our luck with young prospect in Leali.

No he hasn't. Sabatini has many signings that turned out to be 25m+ guys. The list is long.

Stop talking about trophies as evidence. Winning a championship has other variables to it.

I think the problem is that you don't fully recognize how good his best signings are. Signing Vidal alone is a net profit to the club of like 50M+. It negates all his bad signings at once. The magnitude of Marotta's best signings are simply much higher than Sabatini's.

Ok, Sabatini pays 13M for Benatia. He comes good. 11M for Pjanic, he comes good. That's 24M. Great job. But then you have instances where Marotta finds Pirlo, Llorente, and Barzagli for 300K. And they are better players (at least they were).

Roma can sell all their best players and if you go and add up their profit it might add up to Vidal and Pogba alone in their best case scenario.

In other words, Marotta's best signings are like 100/100 home runs and Sabatini's are like 85/100.

But then you have to figure out that most of Marotta's worst signings come when he tries to add depth so that we can play 3 competitions. This is the first year that Sabatini has had to deal with that added pressure on his mercato movements and you see him coming up with Keita, Emanuelson, Ashley Cole, Astori, Borriello and 30+M for Iturbe. De Sanctis still the keeper? FFS, Storari is 10x better and he's our 2nd choice.

I think it's more fair to evaluate their transfer dealings and philosophy when they both get to the same stage, which they are at now. I mean, would anyone be surprised if Borriello was starting for them in some CL matches? I wouldn't. This board would implode if Borriello was starting CL matches for us this year.

I'm comparing Roma's best signings to ours. Even if I leave out Vidal and Pogba, we can still say Pirlo, Llorente and Barzagli for peanuts would be some of our best signings.

Compare that to Roma's with Benatia, Pjanic, whoever else. You see the point I'm making that Marotta literally got better players and paid 300K.

I really really wouldn't say we're "stacked" there. Bonucci and Ogbonna just cannot be relied upon. Caceres is decent back up for all defensive positions, nothing more. Barzagli is 33 and injured and I'm worried.

those players cost little because they are older and commend high salaries, sabatini works under different constraints, vidal was marotta's best signing imo and even then it had to come down to leverkusen not wanting to sell him to bayern. If we are talking strictly financials, then vidal is slightly better than pjanic. pogba too had the raiola connection, and doubt hed ever consider a team like roma, so once again another sabatini constraint. Also if we are to take the collective work of both(buy sell) im pretty sure sabatini would come on top.
