As Buck said, people were blasting Marotta for not paying the buy-out clause (36M I believe it was) and not making more of an "effort" to sign Llorente last August. He gets him this January for free, and now we already have people doubting how good he is, saying he isn't that great/we need more etc. People are just never happy no matter what he does.

The oddest thing of all is why they think our transfer constraints will change. Maybe it's because Secco was his predecessor, and he threw money around like it was going out of fashion. But that's exactly why we have this current model.

But what's so bad about informing ourselves? That's the only way you can decide whether or not you want try signing someone.

We shouldn't need to start negotiating with the club/player and announce our interest publicly only then to be told that there's a big difference between what we (can) offer and what they demand. A player such as Aguero is available, the fact that there are so many fools that think we have a shot at signing him is partly due to our board setting the bar way too unreasonably high.

Basically every signing we have made the last few seasons has been on our terms. Even Llorente, it seems. And if you remember, "everyone" was pissed at Marotta because he couldn't get him earlier. We'll lose him if we don't pay, just pay now, etc.
Well, we got him. And those same people who were pissed of about him not coming sooner, now aren't even interested in Llorente anymore. Because he's no longer the flavour of the month.

Llorente's signing seem to be a good piece of business I agree, but we might well need to wait for another few months for him to regain his form and momentum. That's a legitimate concern if you ask me and that could kind of justify this lacking of interest in him among the fans. Still, I believe our fans are generally happy and optimistic about his purchase.

As for the whole media circus: those who care about it will get riled up, that is true. Personally, I couldn't care less (what is he going to say anyway? Van Persie is a player that doesn't interest us or Aguero is not the level of player we want to add to the team?).

No, I said it earlier. Be openly honest with fans: we sure need to add to our team players of that caliber but at the moment, we are not good enough financially to make a move. Many fans would be disappointed right off, Nick being an example, but the sooner they come to terms with the truth, the better.

Fair enough this point can never really be proven (whether it was marotta not giving in just for a matter of coupla mills or it was their clubs/agents dragging it).

Someone like Sanchez would be an improvement for sure, and we must remember that we also have signed Llorente already. Those two players are better than all of our current forwards, except Vucinic 'on his day'.

He has said on many occasions that we can't afford the big name players due to their high transfer fee + salaries. It's not his fault if the media keep making up (Hi Curva) bullshit stories throughout the transfer window that gets the fans hopes up.

Here, that's actually what I'm holding against him. He always says that after we fail to sign a star player we've been linked to (why should we be even linked to the players that we can certainly not afford? It's not all media bullshit. We make moves or we at least show the we are interested while we know ourselves that such players are out of our reach due to the heavy competition and insane spenders). Because they have produced many star youth players that have gone on to be sold for shitloads (which could have been kept in a better club i.e. Juve). Think of players like Benzema, Falcao, Hulk, Lisandro & Cissokho (both Porto -> Lyon)... there are too many to name.

5th option is good compared to Bendtner and Anelka.

I'm pretty sure Marotta over exaggerates that. The main reason is money. We most likely do have the money to splash 25-30m at least on one player (i.e. SS), but if he just spends 5m here and 5m there on squad players then he will be branded a failure.
