Asamoah was almost certainly bought as a CM initially. Isla was bought as the RWB alternative to Lichtsteiner. Circumstances change, but signing a top striker doesn't. We still need more quality in that area, and it is still the hardest transfer to make for a club with financial restrictions. I'm really not going to go into the 1+1+1 = 1 argument again.

Truth be told, we always needed an LwB. Asamoah happens to go for the AfCon, but that's something we knew he would do all along. Yes sure the Chiellini injury happened, but the Peluso purchase at that point would make sense if he actually was someone bought for the long term and a certain standard even if it meant paying more. He is not that player and is never going to be. Isla was bought as an RwB alternative to Licht while Caceres was bought a season earlier, for what, 11m? The circumstances change all the time, but these financial 'restrictions' seem like an issue of our own making.

This is not about Marrotta. It could be something Conte is doing wrong when communicating his requirements, but at the end of the day, somebody needs to be accountable for the money we are spending on players who are not being used. Eventually, that is what is 'restricting' us from dipping into the market for a striker. A night like last might only reiterates this issue. Conte talks about being behind these clubs on a financial level. But are we that far behind seeing how much we spend ourselves? The only difference is, we'll spend 30m on the likes of Isla, Giaccherini, Padoin, Peluso, while Bayern will spend 40m on Javi Martinez or maybe a Luis Suarez.

I agree, but transfer fees only tell half of the story - truly "top" players also command massive wages, and most of the players you listed aren't on massive coin.

Don't forget what our management did/did not against players with big wages.....Trezeguet, Camoranesi, failed to offload Amauri, now Iaquinta....etc.

No shame in losing to Bayern; the shame was the manner of the loss, the absolutely horrendous performance, and Marotta can't be held accountable for that.

However, come summer time, if he fails to upgrade our dysfunctional attack, then he must be held accountable, as he is responsible for strengthening weak areas of the team, and the attack is an obvious weak point. He can't keep using and repeating the same excuses, and misleading the fans. He has done a decent job thus far, and we are well on our way to a 2'nd consecutive Scudetto, but if we want to take that next step, he needs to step up.

Marotta's choice of bringing quantity over quality, has set a cap in our chances in Europe.
This is far as we can go, because Marotta has failed to upgrade the quality of our team, this is a certainty!
It was very clear by the start of the season.

What some may debate is if we would better, for the championship, to have Llorente now, instead of Isla, Peluso, Bendtner and Padoin.
Sacrifice some of our depth to increase our scoring ratio, would bring less, more or the same points, as we have now?
We dont really know, but we what we know for sure is that a 2-1 with Bayern, would give us more chances...
