Frankly, my main argument with Marotta is if we have little cash, than y has our strategy on the market not reflected this? Yes we opted for the loan with option to buy, but these options were still very expensive, and with the exception of Aquilani and Quag, none of of the others are worth it. Also, even though the purchase price of Toni and Barzagli was very low, they are both on high wages.
If we look at our main threats for CL qualification (Napoli, Lazio, Palermo), they are taking chances on promising players, and searching for quality bargains. We should adopt a similar strategy but fine tune it to reflect our greater spending power, which even under our currently tight purse strings, still leaves us with more to spend than the above 3 mentioned teams.
We are wasting space atm by giving shit players on high wages playing time. Why not fill their spots with lesser known players or promising youngsters? Seriously, what do we have to lose? Yes it is a gamble that can backfire, but how is this any different than what we have experienced the past 2 seasons? Would it kill us to play some unknown South American at fb given the lack of quality we currently put up with? If they turn out to be useless, well at least they are not a financial burden, which cant be said for the shit players who fill those exact same squad positions.
Piazon is a step in the right direction, but he is the exception to our current strategy. I want to see more players from Eastern Europe, South America and from lesser leagues, the breeding grounds for what has allowed our direct CL competition to surpass us in quality.
