Marotta: 'Why Juve lost Pazzini...'

Juventus director general Beppe Marotta reveals why they allowed Giampaolo Pazzini to slip through their fingers.
They had been heavily linked with the ex-Sampdoria striker, but saw him complete the transfer to Inter for €12m plus Jonathan Biabiany.

“I have a rapport of great affection and professional respect with Pazzini,” noted Marotta, who was in charge of Samp last season.

“Inter made a very quick swoop and above all a large investment. We were not in the condition to make that economic sacrifice.”

Andrea Barzagli has arrived from Wolfsburg for just €300,000 and Luca Toni picked up an injury in his second game after the move from Genoa.

“This is a year of great economic difficulty for the club and there will be a consistent loss. Unfortunately we have been unlucky with so many injuries to the forwards.

“We can rule out a headline-grabbing January buy, even if we remain vigilant on the market for other options. We do intend to take up our options on Fabio Quagliarella and Alberto Aquilani, but the price-tags are negotiable.”

This week’s exit from the Coppa Italia means there probably won’t be any silverware this season and fans are turning on Coach Gigi Del Neri.

“We have a squad with a tactician who deserves our confidence. We started a renewal process with many players and knew full well this would be a season of laying the foundations,” assured Marotta.

“Milan, Inter and Roma all took time to find their form. We know that our quality level is not exceptional, but we will improve and above all have a great work ethic.”

Why paying 5 million euros for back up gk then? Why paying 12 million for someone below average while you have Giovinco? What were you thinking? He is talking honestly though. As long as Juve have Marotta, there will be a consistent loss.

A SPLUTTERING ENGINE — "A SPLUTTERING ENGINE — "The total wage bill of our squad is the sixth highest in Europe. If our results were in line with our wage bill, we would be in the quarter-finals of the Champions League every year. Juventus is a 170 million Euro a year vehicle, with great potential. It's as if we've filled the tank with diesel fuel instead of petrol and the engine has started spluttering. But we have time to put things right. During the summer we began making the first adjustments and we will complete this overhaul at the end of the season. I know exactly what I found when I arrived here on 30 June and I know everything that Marotta have done since 1 July. Are the players paid more than they deserve? They are well paid".ne with our wage bill, we would be in the quarter-finals of the Champions League every year. Juventus is a 170 million Euro a year vehicle, with great potential. Well for is having the six highest wage in Europe Marrota has managed it pretty poorly trying to think smart buy thrift shopping, instead of just getting solid Names for a Club that we once were. Alessio Secco was just a guy who could care less, Marotta is just a cheap bastard he thought QUANITY not QUALITY. :sergio:

For two men that apparently had a good rapport with Sampdoria how then did we fail miserably in landing Cassano for free and Pazzini for a relatively low fee?

We have truly become an old crippled lady.

We need to reduce the wage bill, thats something we all know. Selling Amauri and reducing Alex's wage alone could save us like 10 mil € per season.

That's if we don't replace them.

It's not about reducing the wages as it is about getting much bigger quality for the same wages. We're the third most expensive team in the league, far above the 4th placed Roma, but our quality doesn't reflect the wages we pay. So instead of paying +7m eur for Amauri's wages, around 4m eur for Salihamidzic, the same money for Grygera and the likes, we need three times better players with the same wages.
The other option is to reduce the wage bill to reflect the quality. Instead of paying Amauri his +4m eur+taxes, we can get the same quality with Maccarone and he'll cost us 1m eur+taxes.

We pay 100m eur annually for wages, but our team is worth half that. So we either make it a 100m eur team or we keep the same quality, but with different and much less expensive players. We all know which is the option Marotta needs to choose and it's his task to do it.

Agnelli: 'Juve in transitional year'

Juventus President Andrea Agnelli admits he is “annoyed” at the early Cup exits, but stands by Gigi Del Neri’s work in a transitional year.

The Bianconeri crashed out of the Europa League in the first round without a single win and lost 2-0 at home to Roma in the Coppa Italia quarter-final this week.

“We want to send a clear message to the media and the fans,” said Agnelli in a Press conference.

“We are here to explain where we are and where we want to go. The rest is just cheap talk.

“We read many different theories, including that Marcello Lippi and Luciano Spalletti are coming to Turin. I can tell you it’s all rubbish.

“Juventus have the utmost faith in Del Neri and the staff, so the Coach can relax. He is doing fine work.

“What we need is to be consistent,” continued the President. “We did not go over the top before and will not get depressed now. The players must step on to the field and give their all for 95 minutes. That is all I ask, then in May we’ll evaluate the situation.

“There were many negative records last season and this means the financial situation is a delicate one. We have to deal with the lack of Champions League qualification, the construction of the new stadium and the change in pay-per-view television rights.

Our wages are the sixth highest in Europe. We end this year with a significant loss. That does not change our plans and ambitions, which are up to the standard of a winning tradition.”

However, Agnelli does not disguise that the early exit from the competitions did irritate him.

“I was a bit annoyed, as I like to win. I go to the stadium with passion and always want at least a 3-0 victory, but when I get into the office I have my managerial hat on and know what we’re working with.

“We knew this was going to be a difficult year and there is work to be done. If we’re in the same position a year from now, then we’ll have a problem.”

Somebody please tell me that this is a pure crap and not true :sergio:

I guess it is. Our wages are 3rd highest in Italy. Since the taxes in Spain are ridiculously low, it might be that Real and Barca are overall paying less for wages than we do, but then you have Chelsea, City, United, Bayern etc.
Actually, looking at this, even if we're not 6th, then we're definitely 7th or 8th and surely in top 10.

I doubt there is a good rapport since Marotta left and took Paratici and Del Neri with him.
