I think people are looking for more of an independent transfer director, like Secco was in the past, but a less useless version.
The model Juve have now is one thing, but Marotta being on the BOD adds to how it is enforced. He's not going to kick up a fuss and go to the board asking for more money like maybe a PL manager could, or a typical Serie A sporting director, because he is directly involved on the money side and knows the budget and model.
Still, that doesn't protect him from criticism in moves, these guys live and die by the players they sign. What I don't agree with is criticising for moves that are either very difficult or unrealistic.
I'd much rather we have a team with sustained success and competitiveness over a long period than going all in for short term success. Maybe others see differently. Maybe the Milan model is better.
These guys know what we can sustain, and we can get quality with our model, we've done it already.
