Branca being better than Marotta :D :D
We don't know who is better, or who had the potential to fill Moggi's large shoes, but to say Marrotta is the best GM in Italy is a bit of a stretch, and even if we believe that, then it's hardly saying much because of how bad a condition the league is in to be honest. It's in such a bad condition that we are undefeated there and can't even win against the second best team in Denmark in the CL. Most of the guys we compare Beppe to, would've done a similar job to him to be honest, and one of them might have even had the vision to crack a deal for a striker, which Marrotta has failed to do miserably with a whole lot going for him. In fact that failure is so big, it went a long way in undoing an otherwise wily mercato.

If you look at Beppe's approach, and the kind of players he goes for, since Conte's arrival now come with a tactical purpose, unlike his first season here. Save Pirlo, most players that came in last season, had come in keeping the tactics in mind, as with this season.

so bendtner was conte's idea
Bendtner was Marrotta's incompetency to close a decent striker, three years into his job. We ended up scrapping with fucking Siena of all clubs.

So baggio, if we'd gotten that big ass striker, and next he'd get a big injury, making us end 4th in serie a and out of CL, would you still call marotta better then

getting the team dept, first in serie a, and well, still chances to get trough group ?

Same shit, different day.

It just feels great being in first place. I don't know about you.
Nope, not good enough. You're not a true fan unless you whinge about every little fucking thing Marotta does or doesnt do.

*Marotta is crap

* It's Conte's philosophy, he demanded these players

*Marotta didnt sign x/y/z

*Marotta shouldnt have signed x/y/z

The proof as they say is in the pudding. Undefeated Serie A Champions and we are back in the CL again. The rest of this discussion with the haters is all hot air. Let the results do the talking.

No, remember all of the good signings are Conte's and the shit ones are Marotta's. Duh.

He's no different than any politician. Marotta is damn right we're not a selling club, that is entirely correct. We can't sell anybody, nor can we buy any established players. So we had better invest in the youth, such as the Pogba's.

I don't like him, but I appreciate what he has done thus far.

Having said that, he needs to go beyond that village mentality, and stop suffering from the "king of a small mountain" syndrome, where he is happy to beat up on and bully Serie A weaklings weeks in, week out, while making us look totally meh against any opponent in Europe, whether big or small.

From where do you get the impression that he is satisfied with our current performances in the CL?

I didn't say he was satisfied with them, but we haven't been competitive. Aren't we judging him based on building a competitive team to compete on multiple fronts?

I'm just playing devil's advocate here ;)

No, remember all of the good signings are Conte's and the shit ones are Marotta's. Duh.

So what you're effectively saying is, that the team Marrotta has 'built' last season, we'd go undefeated and win the title, even if Del Neri was coach?! This group of players that we bought, play as a team, and that is our biggest strength. That is a mentality the coach instils in his players. Its also wrong to think Conte has nothing to do with whose coming into the team. Take the Caceres example, do you think Marrotta just got bored and decided to bring him back one season after sending him away himself?

I'm not hating on Marrotta, but I find it really funny that people think that our unbeaten track record and recent successes are all down to Beppe. A lesser coach would've struggled to come even second with the team we had last year, let alone win the league.

Zach, the depth argument would really count if we actually needed the depth going into the middle of the season. Unfortunately, seeing how much quality we lack up front, that depth is not going to be something Marrotta can defend himself with if we go out early, because the numbers clearly show, we are still holding the ball well, and attacking but failing in the one place we always knew we would. In front of goal. As things stand, going out in the group stage is a huge failure by my estimate, given that we knew what our problems were before the mercato even began.

So, all good players we signed we signed because of Conte, all the bad players we signed it's Marotta's fault, and signing Conte was Agnelli's achievement.

However you look* (insert Marotta joke) Marotta is guilty and should be fired!

Being competitive in the CHL isn't all about what players you have, either. Look at Manchester City for the past two seasons, absolute bollocks in the CHL. Could it be Conte's fault? :surprised:
