Beppe never said anything publicly about fee's. Every trustworthy source that was right exactly on the fee before the official news said two things over the last few weeks:

01.) We demand 120m
02.) The main issue to solve is the agent fee for Raiola

So we demand 120m initially, but in the end only get 105m€. Guess what happened, guess who pay's part's of Raiola's fee indirectly? Juventus. And if Marotta never demanded 120m in the age where he believes paying 90m for Higuain is a good idea, than that makes it even worse. When you sell a player you actually don't want to sell, you shouldn't negotiate, you should have a demand that either gets fulfilled or not. That's how bigger clubs - actual non-selling clubs - handle those situations. Marotta could learn a thing or two on that front.

Selling Pogba for essentially Higuain + 15m/20m is lunacy, especially when you include things like age and marketability into the calculation. The money we made for Pogba is basically already gone. If someone would have suggested that before we actually did it, that person would have been laughed out of the room. But some fans just care about feeling good and deluding themselves for that sake, rather than being justifiable critical of certain activities around the club. That's why not few defended the deal we made for Vidal as they do now with Pogba.

Marotta has overall done a fantastic job at Juve, but his handling of the midfield in the last 12-13 months has been anything but that. Last year we missed an opportunitiy to improve the midfield, after Khedire turned out to be a replacement-player rather than an improvement-player and now we have done the same with thing with Pjanic.

How? Pirlo retired to NYCFC, Vidal wanted to leave to Bayern and Pogba wanted to leave to ManUTD. Sell the Juventus Stadium and Beppe could of given Vidal 10M, Pogba 15M a year. Truly would of kept him in Turin and go back to play at the Olimpico. :)
Like Farca kept Masche with an easy NO. We sell those players cuz we wanted It to. U could repeat over and over those lines but at the end we only sold the players cuz our board wanted to do It... We make big profits, buy new good players and keep winning our league so it's a really good business

Well if napoli called us and propose a Trade between Pogs and Higuain +15m.... Well it's no hard to understand why there is some questioning marks around this mercato

Higuain + Pjanic is actually a pretty darn good exchange for Pogba + Morata in the short term... It's the long-term outlook where the deal gets iffy.

It all really depends on how our midfield does this season/if we can get another good signing there.

If we pick up a player like Kovacic... and he does well, it could turn out to be a brilliant mercato.

Or if Lemina takes that step to becoming a real class player...

Wait and see is the best way to look at it right now.

Well, honestly I think 99% of the manager working in football would say no without much thinking:

1) Pjanic and Higuain may have already acchieve their prime and maximun price.
2) Pogba and Morata even when they could be a little bit inferior, their both are more markeatable and with high chances to become at least as good as the other partner

Nevertheless our board showed several time they know more than anyone el se in this sport... So, as u said, we'll see

Or perhaps we looked at the teams who have been winning the CL for the last 4 years... Bayern-Madrid-Barca-Madrid... and we saw that modern football is trending more and more towards attacking... none of these teams had or have the best midfields out there... they had/have solid midfields, with brilliant attacks and wide play.

So we upgraded our wings and our attack over the last two summers.

Asamoah/Evra+Isla/Lichtsteiner --- >>> Sandro + Alves is an absolutely massive upgrade, especially as far as attacking goes...

And Tevez + Morata/Llorente ----->>> Dybala +Higuain looks like quite the upgrade too...

Again, it's wait and see though. But perhaps we decided to shift the strengths of this team.

It looks a little drastic to me, but... this season's CL shall tell the true tale. Anything less than Semifinals will be very disappointing in my eyes.

I was going to mention something in an earlier post, and it's something that would probably be attacked by the tactics gurus on here (HI! @Zacheryah)...we've had one of, if not, the best midfields in the world for 3-4 years, and we didn't win anything in Europe. And the year we actually made the final of the CL, was off the back of Tevez/Morata's exploits upfront, and our defence/Gigi putting in masterful displays game in-game out. Our midfielders were mostly inconsistent in the 14/15 in Europe; Pogba missed most of the KO stages, Vidal never really hit his straps most of that year in general after his injury, and Pirlo had visibly slowed down and also suffered an injury against Dortmund and was at times a liabilty. Marchisio had a great campaign that year filling in for Pirlo as a regista.

Maybe, bolstering our attack is perhaps the better way, at least short term, to try and win finally win this elusive CL? Who knows. But anyway, even after selling Pogba, Morata and Cuadrado's loan expiring, I think we have a stronger team than last season, and as I said after the West Ham game, the technical level of the team has risen quite highly IMO.

:agree:

Pjanic is easily Pogba's match technically and a far better passer. Our possession game and long-ball + through-ball passing is better with him than with Paul.

We've lost athleticism and ball-winning in the midfield, but gained hugely in technical ability and intelligence.

A Khedira-Marchisio-Pjanic trio is one of the smartest mids in football. A little light on muscle and ball-winning though....
