I understand your point but things have changed, times have changed. We can't realy on Italians and expect to be successful in Europe. It's not gonna happen.

Of course we will always look at the Italian market first, the way i've always looked at Juventus is that it's the team supposed to have the best Italian talent which nowadays, unfortunately, it's nothing but a couple of players. But we need to equally look elsewhere.

Italians aren't even the best in defending anymore, let alone in producing attacking and creative players. It's been at least 10 years since the last good generation of defensive players so i don't see what the strength in having below par players for the sake of nationality BESIDES the number of homegrown players/country players we need for CL.

There's a reason Barcelona has actual Football schools all over the world. And several schools in Spain alone. They know even though Spain in the last 15 years have produced a lot of talent they need to scout everywhere in order to beat their competition. They find the kids before anyone else.

I know we're not them and we don't really go for the youngsters but looking at other markets and actually knowing them inside out is essential for this club's future.

The stepping ladder includes stepping up to us.

If you take the last few years alone imagine a Sabatini-esque mercato where we signed Benatia, Cuadrado and Alexis from Udinese for €70m (their total) instead of Bonucci, Isla, Vucinic, Matri, Ogbonna (€75m overall). You could go through lots of moves and basically end up with a world class team just from Serie A. Assuming of course that they would progress the same.

Serie A still isn't a cheap league to buy from when Juve come calling, so for that part I agree. But we've always done this, we laugh and joke about it but we buy many players with experience of the league. Of the ones we didn't it is just as much a mixed bag and waste of money (pro: Vidal, Pogba / con: Krasic, Diego, Elia). We have big success and flops wherever we sign players from, and the more expensive flops have come from abroad (no pressure, Morata).

I know we are playing catch up with the likes of Barcelona, but we don't go for youngsters? We sign a dozen each season, and have a worldwide scouting system (we've signed players from Brazil, Ecuador, Denmark, Latvia, Australia, Slovakia, Spain, Greece, Norway, Iceland etc in the last few years).

Back in the day i'd agree with you, players would look at Juventus as the highest step in the ladder. Now we get the rejects.

The thing about big success and flopping comes down to pretty much this one factor called luck. Pogba was one in a million, jackpot.

We had no problems having an Italian core before because there were Italian players who actually possessed talent. It hasn't been the case for a quite a few years now.

Clubs have an image, something the fans connect with.
We have such a large fanbase in italy thanks to domestic succes, and because we allways had a big italian core.

For a while now we see the issue that there is a lack of talent in the domestic league. Whilst keeping the domestic league very high in importance, we kinda adapted to also look further then that.

Coman, Pogba, Vidal, Caceres, Tevez, Llorente all come from outside the serie a.
We'll however never become Inter, who at points field 0 italians.
You look different at this matter, but i can tell you there are ALOT of people who are like "all these foreign players, it should be a 3 foreign only rule per starting 11 so domestic talent gets a chance".
And no, thats not an italian thing, you kinda hear that in every european country by plenty of (usually older) people.
Here is the deal, we got quite a significant part of our fanbase that thinks like that.

Juventus prefers domestic defenders. Because they are more used to all them tactical guidelines and preparation. YES i know, a quality defender with a brain can do that aswel but lets be fucking honest here : there are no quality defenders, and everyone that looks like one, costs a shitton of money


Nastasic for this reason is a very high priority for me, and i'll get disappointed if we dont get him. He has experience in serie a, he's very young, big talent, very complete, just a bit slow.
EXACTLY what we need, cause we can work around the slow part.
