If he reaches that mark I wonder how long he would hold the record for. I feel like it would take decades for someone to reach it.
Well you need 22 seasons with 30apps/season to reach 660 games. Even when you start being Serie A regular as a teenager (let's say 17yo - which is highly unlikely in Italy) you need to play til you're almost 40yo. It'd be probably doable for some GK, if he manages to stay injury free and decides to spend his whole career in Italy.

Donnarumma has 58 appearances in Serie A btw :D 18 years 16 days old. Average 29 games/season - this will increase.
He can have a nice shot at the record.

This really makes Maldini's record insanely impressive, considering he wasn't even a gk. Buffon's gonna overcome him with ease though, doubt in the modern world of football there will be anyone who will reach him in the next 10 years, unless Totti decides to mope on the bench til he's 50...

Also one of the main reasons will be that since nowadays serie A is not attractive and competitive enough....most good players wil simply get out after 3 or 4 years of learning in serie A.

Nowadays,, no fukin way the Maldinis or Buffons would have reached those numbers in serie A. They would have been bought by PSG or Real Madrid in an instant.
