If people say that Buffon isn't at any fault for any of the goals that we've been conceding then I would gladly sell him because that doesn't make him any special. Same thing can be said had Manninger been standing instead. The goals aren't his fault.

The keeper gets his confidence from the defenders in front him and when you're defense from the best player to the worst look like they are unreliable and need constant baby sitting then of course he will not have his old form. We all know that he has the ability and he will regain his form once we fix that defense up.
Now in this so called dip in form that has, there wasn't one goal that is directly attributed to a mistake by him. We are just complaining that he isn't doing any miracle saves ( although he is still doing them). We forget the Lazio game where he made a direct mistake to allow their goal. Manniger is very good but we haven't tested with enough pressure of having the number one jersey to conclude he can go through a whole season with consistent performances.
You want any keeper to do miracles you have to give him the confidence that these players in front of him doing their job of protecting his goal.

People saying that Buffon is past it will look rather foolish in a little while. Everyone can have dips in form, and as sateeh points out, you can't underestimate the importance of the defenders quality for a keeper's confidence. Also keep in mind it wasn't long ago that he went half a season without football.
Buffon is 31 years old which is no age for a goalkeeper. Del Piero came back to play arguably the best football of his life at 33-34. I'm sure the lot of the same people that now turn their coats about Buffon had put down Del Piero a couple of years ago.

come on guys..this is buffon!! the main problem is the defence, the 3 goals against chievo were not his fault, the 3 goals against genoa were not his fault, only a blind person can blame gigi on those 6 goals, and as i recall i have never seen buffon make a mistake ever, unlike cech who always seems to fumble the ball. so stop this talking that buffon has lost it or he doesnt add that extra spark, and IF we were to sell him, who would u want standing in the goal?
