Buffon: «They had stronger motivations»

Seven days after the wide win against Lazio, the post-match comments are exactly reversed. Just like the 5-2 drubbing against the Romans was due to the Bianconeri's stronger motivations, the same can be said after the K.O. suffered at Siena. The slim chances to reach second place were less strong than the Tuscans' desire to mathematically avoid relegation today.

This was Gigi Buffon's theory in an interview with Juventus Channel after the game: «They deserved to win, they believed in it more, they had a better attitude and they wanted to win more than us. Perhaps the result in Genoa didn't help us. In these last games of the season motivation is everything and they approached the game better than us. Kharja's goal? Maybe there was a foul on Chiellini. In any case he did well and he was lucky in getting such a shot in, impossible to save, considering he shot almost from the ground. He'd already scored against me when he was at Roma, I'll put him in my little black book…».

Buffon: Roma Play Better Football Than Inter

Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon reveals that he is not too bothered as to who wins the Scudetto but he admits that Roma play better football than Inter.

The Serie A Championship will be decided this weekend when the season comes to a close. Inter lead Roma by a point heading into the last day.

It’s sure to be an exciting sprint to the finish line with lots of tension and drama expected. Buffon hasn’t picked a winner but he does seem to be leaning towards the Giallorossi.

“What ever happens both teams have been excellent but I must say that Roma have played the better football,” said Buffon.

“I won’t say who I’ll be supporting but our fans have shown everyone who they want to win, when Siena scored they celebrated as if we had scored.”

Buffon also spoke on whether he believes Donadoni should pick Del Piero for the Euros.

“As for Del Piero, I won’t tell Donadoni what to do but we all make mistakes.”

Juventus travel to Sampdoria but neither team has anything left to play for given their positions in the league but pride will be at stake in the port city come 20:30 on Saturday.

Gigi to skip Samp
Thursday 15 May, 2008

Gigi Buffon is set to sit out Juventus’ final game of the season against Sampdoria due to a long-standing back problem.

The gifted shot-stopper had planned to rest as soon as the Old Lady secured qualification for next season’s Champions League, but he reconsidered when the pain in his back subsided.

However, with Euro 2008 looming large, Buffon is expected to pull out of Saturday evening’s match away to Sampdoria where there is only pride at stake.

Emanuele Belardi is ready to fill in for his fourth start of the Serie A campaign.

Claudio Ranieri has a weakened side for the trip to the Stadio Luigi Ferraris with Vincenzo Iaquinta and Jorge Andrade injured and Mauro Camoranesi, Zdenek Grygera and Antonio Nocerino suspended.

Mali international Mohamed Sissoko is ready to return to the side after taking two days off to play in a charity match in Seville.

David Trezeguet and Alessandro Del Piero are likely to start up front and will be competing for the Capocannoniere title, as they are both level with Genoa’s Marco Borriello at the top of the scoring chart with 19 goals apiece.

I know, i kept waking up to watch our matches on sunday mornings and was wondering "wtf r u doin Gigi, rest up man." Only thing i could think of is that he wants to stay match fit b4 Euro 2008. Because i really do not believe Donadoni would ever tell him to hold the bench at Euro 2008 lol. So i really guess he must have thought his back was much better.
