Juventus Coach Didier Deschamps believes that Gianluigi Buffon won’t leave the club at the end of the season.
The goalkeeper has warned that he might be tempted by a summer move as he is desperate to return to the Champions League – something which won’t be possible in Turin until 2008.
“Now I only want him to remain focused on reaching Serie A as soon as possible,” said Deschamps in the Press conference preceding Tuesday’s showdown with Napoli.
“He has a long contract and I cannot believe that Juve will let him go, seeing the outfit’s ambitions.
“There are no other goalkeepers like him around, selling him would be like shooting your foot and then trying to run.”
David Trezeguet was also linked with a transfer, but recently stated that he was willing to stay even if Juve aren’t in next year’s Champions League.
“I am not surprised that the players now want to stay, many things have changed since July,” revealed the ex-Monaco boss.
“Trezeguet is part of the club’s plans and I am sure he will be offered a contract extension, which he will consider carefully.”
Deschamps can count on Alex Del Piero for tomorrow’s match in a sold out Stadio Olimpico, as the captain has recovered from a minor injury and has been training with the rest of the squad.
“He is eager to do well and is an example for all our younger players. We will try to win, but a draw would be fine as well
, because it would leave us six points ahead of Napoli,” concluded Deschamps.

Giovanni Cobolli Gigli has stated that Juventus will do all they can to keep Gianluigi Buffon – but only if he is convinced of the club’s project for the future.
The World Cup winning goalkeeper is pondering a move away from Turin at the end of the season, but the Bianconeri are understandably keen to keep a tight grip on the shot-stopper.
“We want Buffon to stay with us as we feel great friendship and respect towards him,” said President Cobolli Gigli.
“We will do all we can to keep him here at all costs, but only if he is convinced that staying with us is the right decision.
“We want him to find the right motivating factors to stay here, aside from the conflicting rumours which appear in the newspapers.
“We are working hard to build a strong and competitive side, we hope this will convince him to remain,” concluded the official.
Sporting director Alessio Secco had reiterated on Tuesday that Buffon would still be wearing the Bianconeri jersey next season.
However, the former Parma shot-stopper did admit over the weekend that he is missing the spotlight of Champions League football.
As it stands, Juventus could only return to Europe’s premier club competition during the 2008-09 campaign at the earliest.

Juventus and FIFA World Cup-winning Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon may be in Malta for six hours on April 22 to attend the 3rd Puttinu Cares 60-hour football marathon at the Marsa Sports Ground that weekend.
Organisers said his presence for an hour at the grounds would be confirmed over the next couple of days.
Gianluigi Buffon, who also plays for the Italian national team, is expected to play with children and parents from 2 to 3 p.m. as part of the marathon.
The goalkeeper was transferred to Juventus from childhood club Parma FC in 2001, for what was the largest transfer figure ever for a goalkeeper, and is regarded as one of the top of all time, winning IFFHS World's Best Goalkeeper award three times.
The football marathon is being organised by the Puttinu Cares Children's Cancer Support Group.
Starting at 10 a.m. on April 20, it comes to a close at 10 p.m. the Sunday after.
The main aims of the marathon are "awareness and fun".
"We wish to raise awareness of the needs of young cancer patients and their families by encouraging other children to attend and meet our children during the football matches and other activities that are being organised throughout the day and the night," a spokesman for the organisers said.
They usually target over 400 teams of young and not-so-young players, the spokesman added, encouraging participants from various sectors, including schools, football nurseries, companies and government entities.
The marathon organisers are working on a voluntary basis and the event is being supported by the Education Ministry and the Malta Sports Council.
No targets have been set and donations are voluntary.
