Buffon faces uncertain future
Monday 23 October, 2006
Gianluigi Buffon has confirmed that he will stay at Juventus until the end of the season, but makes no promises on what will happen after then.
The Juve goalkeeper has repeatedly dismissed the possibility of a January move to Chelsea in the past week.
“Before June I won’t move, then, we will evaluate everything,” said Buffon to the popular Sunday afternoon RAI program 'Quelli che il calcio’.
The world champion chose to remain at Juventus after the club was relegated to Serie B and is once again proving to be decisive, having conceded only two goals in seven matches.
The Bianconeri star was linked with a £25m move to London last week following the serious injury to Petr Cech, but the Italian’s agent Silvano Martina immediately denied the news.
Buffon is contracted until 2010 and his statement allows the Turin club to make some serious plans for the future.
Buffon, who achieved a record of 981 goalless minutes with Juventus, moved to Turin from Parma in 2001 for a massive £33m, a record transfer fee for a goalkeeper, and is also a reported target for Manchester United, Inter and Milan.
