I do too. The captain is so much more than just a player. Its a precense on the pitch that calms everyone down when things get bad and levels people off when they are good. Gigi does just that. I think if Marchisio gets captain it will be very short as its probably after Chielini

Even though I acknowledge that Buffon has given so much for the Juventus shirt, I feel that he is not fit to be our leader. He doesn't seem to have the same passion and pride that other Juventus greats have had - such as Conte, Deschamps, Del Piero...

We've read/heard so many times how "apathetic" Buffon has been - he's even been accused of not caring for the team so much during his long injury spell. And this article from Channel 4 simply shows how much the gaps is in terms of how attached Buffon is to the Juventus shirt.

I don't hate Buffon - but no offense, when Del Piero leaves next year, I think the arm band should go to someone else.
:sergio:

So you'd prefer Buffon to come out after every win and proclaim us to be Scudetto contenders? Fuck that. And I disagree with your assertion that Buffon isnt captain material. This guy is Juve through and through, you can tell he is passionate on the field and is a leader. I've no problem with Gigi captaining the team and I actually like having a GK as our captain.

The armband will go to Gigi whether you like it or not. Deservingly so, he's a World Champion who lead us out of Serie B. NEVER forget that.
Chiello and Marchi will have their time, in like 6-7 years, because Gigi is staying till he's 40 bitchez!

For some reason he always wanted to be a Milan player. The way he talks about them, just pisses me off.

Yes, I'm sure that he will be the captain next year - after Del Piero. I'm just saying I prefer it if he had more fire - more flair.

He's always speaking too cautiously - and we need someone to fire us up at at time like this when our confidence is low (having finished 7th for two straight years). Sometimes, I just wish he spoke his mind without caring what other teams think.

It's been a while that I've seen him like this...

Or like this...

I thought he was a good candidate to be our captain before, but now I feel it's as if he's gotten too tired for our cause. Don't blame me, that's just my impression with all the things he's been saying.

Do you know how Buffon talks in the dressing room to the other players?

Just because he isn't wildly optimistic when talking to the press doesn't mean he can't help fire his teammates up.

Anyway, I prefer a do-as-I-do type captain, over someone who talks a lot but can't be relied upon.

That's true, I don't think anyone here knows how Gigi talks in the dressing room. (Unless we have someone who does?)

This is all down to a matter of personal preference.

When I was playing back in high school, I was used to a coach who fired us up before we got to the field.

it's not like Casillas who is given the armband both at Real and Spain just because he has the most number of appearances,
Buffon is actually a good leader, he actually captains the team... it's so clear.

Conte: "I hear a lot of compliments going around, but we still haven’t done anything yet. I’m happy, however, to hear what my players say in their interviews, like Buffon’s comment yesterday [Milan favourites for the Scudetto and we’re behind]. We just have to think about keeping a low profile and working hard."
