Even though I acknowledge that Buffon has given so much for the Juventus shirt, I feel that he is not fit to be our leader. He doesn't seem to have the same passion and pride that other Juventus greats have had - such as Conte, Deschamps, Del Piero...

We've read/heard so many times how "apathetic" Buffon has been - he's even been accused of not caring for the team so much during his long injury spell. And this article from Channel 4 simply shows how much the gaps is in terms of how attached Buffon is to the Juventus shirt.

I don't hate Buffon - but no offense, when Del Piero leaves next year, I think the arm band should go to someone else.

I would still prefer Marchisio to have it. First of all because i would rather an outfield player who has more influence on the game and because i would rather we started to groom a young player into a captain we will have for a long time.

Or maybe, just maybe, he doesn't want to put too much pressure on a team that has finished 7th two years in a row.

I don't think that's entirely fair on him, and that he is a great leader. He commands more respect than the other players at the moment, and is a good representative. He tends to choose his words carefully, though slips sometimes as they all do, and has the experience.

Are you kidding? No passion or pride? Sure he doesn't go crazy like Chiellini or Conte, but so what? When we were going through our worst 2 years of shit, he's the one that it seems to have affected the most. He was actually getting depressed. He could have left for much better places so many times when they kept promising him, "We'll be competitive this season". Don't get it twisted.

Who cares what journalists have been accusing him of? He was disillusioned and did seem to give up, but I think he cared the most.

And as for that article from C4... :disagree: Really?

I think that Buffon remains the best leader after Del Piero on our team. The mind games that he plays all of the time sure are confusing for some fans, but overall i think that he tries to protect Juventus. Personally i would give the armband to Chiellini after Del Piero and Buffon complete their career on Juve.

Yeah its fairly ovious he was just being careful with his words as to not hype us up to much if he had of mentioned scudetto we all would of complained. No one can doubt how passionate Buffon is about Juve.. i still stand by my opinion that i dont want thim to be the next captain though :D

Marchisio can get it when his time comes--after Buffon and Chiellini.

Personality is more important than playing position when selecting a captain. I don't think Marchisio can be the leader of this squad as yet. Buffon, everyone respects him (except cretins like Thiago Motta).

There will always be a few captains/leaders in our team anyway proably wont ever find one that will be as significant as Del Piero for a very long time if not ever. I just have a feeling that Marchisio is being groomed to be our new captain for the future.
