There is a football programme on the radio here at the moment.
They just had an interview with Petr Cech. After it was over the guy presenting the show asked Mark Lawrenson if he thought Cech is the best keeper in the world.

Lawrenson replied "Yes, I think he probably is." Then he said something about Casillas also being good. He then hesitated and added "the Italian keepers... not so much these days."

What the **** is that supposed to mean?! What a :melayyanandmessi:
lol lawro is a complete twat, i'm not sure he even knows anything about football. Cech is massively overrated, just because he's the best keeper in the prem they think he is the best in the world. All he is competing against in the prem is Van Der Saar, Almunia, David James, Paul Robinson and Heurelho Gomes.... wow, a real crop of telent there!!!!

And what the hell Casillas is useless!!!

Juventus No 1 Gigi Buffon has discussed his injury situation and nominated a surprise contender to inherit the Italian goalkeeping throne.

Buffon was answering readers' questions for Gazzetta.it and he covered a variety of issues starting with his current fitness problems.

“I've had a tear in my adductor and it's partly my own fault,” he explained.

“I had already felt a pain when I tried to rush myself back to play against Palermo when the team were having some problems.

“Things got worse and I found myself with a hole in my adductor, which is slowly recovering. That's why I won't be back until January.”

The ex-Parma man was also asked to discuss how close he came to joining Milan in 2006.

“I am very bound to Juventus and from the moment I agreed to stay after relegation I felt part of a project,” he said.

“The new directors often talk to us players, especially with the old guard. Now I could never play for another Italian team except for Genoa, who I am a big fan of

“But I can confirm that I was close to Milan but then I decided I wouldn't move.

“I didn't feel right with my conscience and I need to be calm to do my best. These considerations wouldn't have come up had Juventus stayed in Serie A and there were other things that weren't going right.

“However, if a team offered £40m for me now, I would be the first to say they should sell me.

“I love Juve and with that sum of money they could galvanise the squad.”

While the Old Lady have put together an impressive run in Serie A, Buffon believes Europe could be the ideal stage for a Bianconeri triumph.

“I think our best chance is in the Champions League,” he claimed.

“We have a mixture of solidarity and experience with the quality needed to make the difference. We showed that in the game against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu.

“As for the Scudetto, Inter and Milan have more quality and the Rossoneri don't have the Champions League, which can take points away from you in the spring.”

Buffon concluded by maintaining that Italy isn't facing a goalkeeping crisis and he suggested some custodians who could follow in his footsteps.

“It's not true that there aren't any good young goalkeepers in Italy - people just need to have more faith in them,” he stressed.

“Marco Amelia, Gianluca Curci and Antonio Mirante are good, but my favourite is Federico Marchetti at Cagliari - he has a great career ahead of him.”

We all knew that (supposed to at least).
He has said it before too, that if Juve didn't get demoted / Capello stayed he would join Milan.

I know man, but still many members here mocked me and I will react like that everytime this comes up.

I was in the stadium when he ran around the entire Delle Alpi waving goodbye for the fans. It was the last home game before Calciopoli, one round before the season was over, against Palermo and we won 2-1.

I wish he stops saying how others have more quality than us. He kept saying this about Inter last year and now he's saying this about both Inter and Milan.
Even if you think so Gigi, please shut up.

He is being realistic. Inter are BETTER, and Milan if they played in CL though, we would be even with, but with only the league to concentrate on, they defenitely have the edge over us.

As a football player you don't have to be realistic. If Inter are better or Milan he should keep it to himself and not state it every two weeks.

It worries me that Buffon stated he would be willing to leave for 40mil pounds. Man City want him and certainly have that kind of cash, I hope nothing comes of it. Gigi is the best goalkeeper ever we shouldn't sell him for even twice that amount.

Not everything is about the money. To me Buffon, Trezeguet, Del Piero, Nedved, Camoranesi are priceless. Specially after Serie B.

They're the foundation of this team.

yea but they won't be around forever...unfortunately, all good things come to an end and if there is a club out there who is willing to offer that kind of insane money for one of our players, I certainly wouldn't mind it...and everybody has a price, which has been proved time and time again

After Serie B in particular there's nothing such as "Everything has a price". Of course they wont be playing forever, they'll retire. Retiring with Juventus is much more different than retiring with another team.

And like I said earlier, not everything is about money. Real Madrid and Chelsea are the biggest proof we have out there. In football it's more about soul, character, what you give on the field and whether you play for the team or for figures.

It's not about the money, it's about the future of Juventus...of course no Juve supporter or any football fan for that matter can ever deny the greatness of these guys for what they did and are still doing for Juve...and like Gigi said, it would be best for Juve if there was a club out there who were willing to offer that kind of money for his services

it's not even that, all our legends one time or the other have had problems with our clubs...even Ale admitted that he had thought about leaving Juve in the past...Thank God nothing came out of it, but one has to keep it real and in perspective

Players like Alex and Buffon can leave If they want to leave. If thats their wish/request/demand. But to put them on a transfer list is another story.

I remember statements of some of our players after we got back to Serie A... From Gigi, Trezeguet, Camoranesi that one of the reasons they sticked with Juve in B was because of Del Piero.

Point is that there are some things in Football that goes beyond money and future replacements. Sure we all want the best to our Club in the future, but doesn't mean you turn your club into Piazza.

It's also about principle If you ask me. Clubs Legends shouldn't be sold unless they want it like I said. I've seen huge offers for Steven Gerrard yet I doubt L'Pool will give their green light. The same with Roma's Totti, Maldini's Milan few years ago and so on. Thats one of the best parts in Football.

Anyway, I'm off to bed mate. G'night.
