We don't get anything other than the History Channel, but it's all so silly anymore anyway. The World At War was the last good thing I saw.
History Channel used to actually show history a few years ago... Then it basically got relegated to the channel A&E uses to air the reality shows it doesn't deem good enough to air itself.

The World At War series is classic. I own the DVD set. :)

Hey, MTV stopped doing music two decades ago. Every thematic TV channel has completely violated its focus to do anything.

Yea, it did. The reality show plague has no end. I think MTV sort of started that with that Real World shit back in the mid-90's. Sadly I must admit I watched that show along with everyone else in my high school class. lol

Vikings first episode was very good indeed, introduced it to bunch of peeps who liked it too. Though I dont expect it to be much historically accurate (atleast so far it makes little sense geographically...).

Yeah I don't know what they thought of geographically. I also thought the boat builder was a little over the top :p

It's meant to take place in southern Sweden or perhaps Denmark which is really flat. And it certainly doesn't have fjords like they show in the series :)

That the thing I reacted to anyway
It's supposed to take place in Denmark? Maybe I should try it out. Just so I can complain about the geography afterwards. :D

Ah, so they just went into it like all of Scandinavia is geographically the same? lol Probably figured most of the target audience wouldn't even realize.

What's the issue with the geography?
What Marty said, supposed to take place south sweden/denmark, while it looks VERY west norwegian/northeast sweden with how rocky it is being in fjords (vikings in fjords??). Besides how it looks geographically, it doesnt make sense that they dont know how to get to England/France by that time frame (I mean shetlands is just close by for them for once, and dannish vikings been raids to UK quite a bit before that time, bound to heard about directions by then). Plus geographic descriptions confusion took me out of the experience a little, they kept saying russia is to east (pedantic, but weird to call it russia, since the very name of russia originates from vikings ruling of "russia" century later)) and UK to west, which makes for middle/south sweden based vikings, but since it was so fjordy and looked REALLY like norway based vikings, they would quite unlikely be raiding baltics/russia which is quite long way around for them. And UK wouldnt be west to them, but to the south. They tried to escape these headaches by simply calling it scandinavia, but still details could be better.

Also, wtf was with the water compass and the sunstone? Unnecessary.

All in all, I still like it though :D

Thats defenitely the reason, and they are right (looked good) as I said only us scandis would notice, and there are some "fjord" like locations in mideast sweden too, but still kinda messy mishmash of the geography.
