It goes beyond administrations. If recent events proved anything it is that US intelligence knows fuck all about Afghanistan and probably any country with a different culture. This ignorance combined with military might and unchecked power post 9/11 is a very dangerous thing.

And it's only getting worse. We are only talking about this incident now because of all the coverage around the US pulling out (and because the family of the murdered aid worker not keeping quiet). Drones for warfare is a slippery slope we'll never recover from.

The United Nations earlier this month raised $1 billion in pledges for humanitarian aid to Afghanistan, well above its initial target of $600 million. Most of that assistance, however, is meant to be delivered by nongovernment organizations and U.N. agencies, bypassing the Taliban administration. That money is only a fraction of Afghanistan’s own reserves, most of which have been frozen by the U.S. and the International Monetary Fund.
